Captain of the Roca Team Amara Sy is leaving Monaco, despite having a year left on his contract.
Amara Sy joined AS Monaco basketball in 2015 during his ascent in the elite.
The 33-year-old has won three Leaders Cup trophies with the club (2016, 2017, 2018) and has played two Jeep Elite finals, achieved one bronze and one Champions League silver medals, and three first places finishes in the regular season.
His future destination has not yet been revealed.
“I had one year of my contract that I expected to honour but given the long term project that I was offered I could not refuse, I had to think about my future and that of my family,” said Amara Sy through the club. “I lived in Monaco, and it was an exceptional experience both on and off the field. I was welcomed with open arms.”
The past season has been difficult for the “Admiral”. Plagued by injuries, Sy did not return to competition until the 31st day, without having fully recovered.
“It was simply an honor to meet ‘Admiral’ Amara Sy, a great gentleman to whom the entire AS Monaco Basket wishes the greatest success in his new life,” said AS Monaco Basket in a statement.
