Rock’n’Royals hit Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week may have just ended and while I could go on about what I loved … and detested … both on and off the runway, one style highlight that I’m currently obsessed with was by my favourite royal siblings Princess Charlotte Casiraghi and Princess Alexandra of Hanover (technically only Alexandra has a royal title but still).

At a glance of Anthony Vaccarello’s current offerings for Yves Saint Laurent, one would not immediately imagine the aristocracy leaping out of the palaces to stock their wardrobes with leather minidresses, sheer tops that leave NOTHING to the imagination and sexy thigh high boots. Well forget what you assumed about royal style once again.

At the Yves Saint Laurent Spring 2018 show in Paris, set against the stunning backdrop of the Eiffel Tower, Monegasque princely family member Charlotte Casiraghi, 31, cut a striking figure in a sheer black blouse – yes, you heard me correctly SHEER – black leather shorts, knee high suede boots, and a black overcoat with leather accents. She completed her look with a touch of vamp in the form of black eyeliner and blood red nails.

Little sister Princess Alexandra, 18, opted for a more conservative but still cool and youthful ensemble of a black and white mini polka dot button up, leather motorcycle jacket, skinny jeans and black patent pumps paired with a Yves Saint Laurent Belle de Jour clutch. Sitting front row on probably the most enviable sister date ever, the two took in the models strutting past in avant-garde white lace brassiere incarnations, exaggerated peplum dresses and blazers with oversized zebra print lapels.

Whether or not the pair will be spotted rocking any of these pieces next season remains to be seen but going by the current trend of royals bucking the old stereotypes, we might be rather surprised come next spring.
