September sees the start of a new bi-monthly music programme at St. John’s Church in Menton.
St. John’s Jazz will start the season on Friday 8th September, to be followed by a concert of classical music on Friday 22nd September.
The first in the series of classical concerts – ‘D’un Festival à l’Autre, Les Musicales de Menton’ – will be a recital entitled ‘O Solitude’, presenting the countertenor Benoit Dumon accompanying himself on the harpsichord and featuring works by Prucell, Charpentier and Monteverdi.
Benoit is the titular organist and Kapellmeister of Gap Cathedral and has made several critically acclaimed recordings.
His first organ album ‘Nun Komm, der Heiden Heiland’ was awarded the Prix Pierre Barbizet by the Academy of Marseille.
The concerts will be held between 6.30pm and 7.30pm and will be followed by refreshments in the library. Entry is €15 adults/€7.50 students on 8th September, and €20 adults/€10 students on 22nd September.
