Stelios Foundation and Hellenic Community of Monaco raise €60,000 for The Hellenic Initiative

The Stelios Philanthropic Foundation and the Hellenic Community of Monaco came together earlier this month to host a special event in Monaco that introduced the important work of The Hellenic Initiative to empower the Greek diaspora and provide support to the country’s economic and humanitarian development.

On Thursday 12th October, the Monaco headquarters of the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation on Quai Antoine 1er set the stage for a series of enlightening speeches delivered by Sir Stelios, the founder of easyJet and his eponymous foundation, and The Hellenic Initiative’s (THI) co-founder and Board President, George Stamas.

This event was orchestrated through the dedicated efforts of Sophia Vaharis Tsouvelekakis, President of the Hellenic Community of Monaco. Another notable local figure who attended was Michael Printzos, the Country Head of the THI.

The evening was a celebration of THI’s remarkable work, and a testament to the power of collaboration and unity it can command in the name of humanitarian and economic development.

To date, THI has provided some €20.5 million in direct grants to more than 100 organisations thanks to a vast network of over 4,500 global contributors.

Guests attending the event in Monaco were asked to make a minimum donation of €100 to THI, but the final amount raised through voluntary donations reached an impressive €30,000.

The Stelios Philanthropic Foundation matched these contributions, doubling the sum to an incredible €60,000, which will go towards supporting the various admirable causes backed by THI.

A Monaco chapter of The Hellenic Initiative

By working together to organise and host the recent event, the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation and the Hellenic Community of Monaco demonstrated that collective efforts can have a significant and thoroughly positive impact.

The next step in this collaboration will be to create a chapter of THI in Monaco, as “forming something permanent in Monaco is something that is very unique to us,” said Stamas on the night.

“If the spirit carries on, we have something everlasting,” he concluded.
