Employees working in Monaco’s financial and insurance sector earned an average gross monthly salary of €11,360 in 2025, making it by far the highest-paying industry in the Principality, according to figures from IMSEE.
The latest Monaco en chiffres 2026 report provides one of the most detailed snapshots yet of salaries across the private sector, highlighting not only the continued dominance of finance but also the growing importance of professional services and Monaco’s expanding technology economy.
Finance remains well ahead
Financial and Insurance Activities continues to lead Monaco’s wage rankings, reflecting the Principality’s long-established role as an international centre for banking, wealth management and financial services.
The average gross monthly salary for full-time equivalent employees in the sector reached €11,360 in 2025, almost €4,000 higher than the next highest-paying industry.
Specialised, Scientific and Technical Activities ranked second, with an average monthly salary of €7,355, followed by Wholesale Trade at €6,235 and Transport and Storage at €5,725.
Among the other sectors, Information Technology, Telecommunications and Media recorded an average salary of €5,244, ahead of Real Estate Activities (€4,551), Industrial, Manufacturing and Craft Activities (€4,440), Accommodation and Food Services (€4,236), Health, Education and Administration (€4,186), and Retail Trade (€4,043).
At the lower end of the scale, Administrative and Support Services recorded the lowest average monthly salary at €3,122, while Construction averaged €3,584.
Monaco’s technology sector makes a strong debut
One of the most notable additions to this year’s report is the introduction of a new economic category: Information Technology, Telecommunications and Media.
Introduced following France’s updated NAF 2025 classification and adopted by Monaco this year, the sector immediately ranks among the Principality’s best-paid industries, with an average gross monthly salary of €5,244.
Its inclusion reflects the growing role of digital businesses, software development, telecommunications and media within Monaco’s increasingly diversified economy.
Average salary rises to more than €5,000
The report also offers a broader picture of earnings across Monaco’s workforce. The average gross monthly salary in the private sector rose to €5,195 in 2025, an increase of 5.4% compared with the previous year.
However, IMSEE’s figures also show that the median monthly salary stood at €3,475, meaning half of private sector employees earned less than that amount while the other half earned more.
The gap between the average and median salaries reflects the concentration of very high earners in sectors such as finance and specialised professional services, which push the overall average upwards.
