HE Mrs Berro-Amadei, Ambassador of Monaco in Germany, has presented Mr Benoît Battistelli, President of the European Patent Office (EPO), with the Instruments of ratification between the EPO and the Principality of Monaco on cooperation on research, an important step in helping patent applications.

The ratification, which took place on Tuesday, April 25, follows the signing of the Agreement in Monaco on November 24, 2016, between Jean Castellini, Monaco’s Minister of Finance and Economy, and Benoît Battistelli.

The agreement will allow users of the patent system to request, on filing a national patent application, a research report on the state of the relevant expertise and a written opinion on patentability, the whole of which is indispensable to know the legal value of any invention.

The Principality has been a member of the EPO since December 1991.
