Britain’s largest independent ship repairer and marine engineering services provider, Burgess Marine, has this month launched the 57m Swiftship M/Y Tacanuya which opens up capacity for another major Superyacht refit this winter, the company said.

After a lengthy refit, M/Y Tacanuya has now been delivered to the owner’s team and is en-route to the Mediterranean. This follows recently completed works, in the UK, on both M/Y Force India and M/Y Lady A.

Lord Sugar, the Owner of M/Y Lady A, said: “Refitting Lady A at home in the UK was a real, genuine, pleasure. The team at Burgess Marine know their stuff and the quality of the end product is simply outstanding. Owners that have made their money in the UK should definitely consider spending it in the UK with the likes of Burgess Marine; British engineering and workmanship is something to be really very proud of – on the South Coast there’s the ‘know how’ and passion to make the most challenging refit a reality”.

Nicholas Warren, the CEO of Burgess Marine said: “Our facility in Portchester is perfect for a winter refit.  The devalued pound coupled with our exceptional British craftsmanship really does make our refit solution both great value for money and well worth further consideration.”

“To see what can be done, you’ve only got to look at M/Y Lady A, exhibiting at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show with Edmiston; she’s a superb example of what can be achieved by bringing your Superyacht to the UK for a major refit” added Warren.

Burgess Marine’s Portchester facility is adjacent to a 60m 1000T Rolls Royce syncrolift facility and is situated at the top of Portsmouth Harbour.

The Burgess Marine team are attending the Monaco Yacht Show and M/Y Lady A can be viewed at the show via Edmiston.

Monaco’s city council has reported that the 22nd edition of the European Heritage Day, which took place on Sunday, September 24, was a success. The events of the day, under the theme “The unusual heritage of Monaco” were coordinated by the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Government of Monaco.

Five municipal sites were open to the public, including some for guided tours, with a total of 3,273 visitors – a very good result in line with that of 2016, the city council said.

The number of visitors to the Town Hall was up by 128, with 1049 entries against 921 in 2016. The visit included, as usual, the Marriage Hall, the Council Chamber, the Court of Honor and the Mayor’s Office, in the presence of members of the Communal Council who were on hand to answer any questions.

Musicians of the Rainier III Academy delighted visitors with two concerts in the Hall – one in the late morning and the other in the early afternoon. This year, the City Council also hosted three initiation workshops on the Monegasque language offered by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs.

The number of visitors to the Exotic Garden of Monaco was up this year with 1,868, compared to 1,641 in 2016.

For the first time, the Médiathèque de Monaco organised four guided tours on its premises located at l’Hélios. All the places were quickly booked with a total of 50 participants.

Lastly, the two art schools registered an increase in attendance, with 216 admissions to the Ecole Supérieure d’Arts Plastiques (201 in 2016), which featured an exhibition by children and adolescents in the public workshops entitled “Belles & Chimères”, and 90 visitors (52 in 2016) to the Rainier III Academy to discover the violin workshop and the many concerts offered on site (harp, piano and orchestra and chamber music).

European Heritage Day ended with a very positive outcome for the City Council of Monaco and the municipal sites. Each year, the teams responsible worked hard to ensure the lasting success of this cultural event that has become a must in the Principality.
