The 12th Monaco-Mongolia Archaeological Campaign, conducted jointly by the Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology of Monaco and the Mongolian Academy of Sciences in the Mongolian steppes, made significant discoveries, including bronze arrowheads, ceramics and bones during its latest expedition.

The most remarkable piece, dating back more than 2000 years, is a bronze cauldron. During the excavation of a tomb at the site of Tsatsyn Ereg, archaeologists discovered the cauldron containing a wooden spoon.

According to the scientists, this object, dating from the second century BC, was buried near a human body, in a pit three-metres deep with a series of other artefacts. This would probably have been the burial site of a nomadic rider, many of whom crossed the Great Wall of China to sow terror among the Chinese peasantry.

The search of the contents of the cauldron will be carried out in a laboratory in order to clear the instrument and to try to discover the traces of any possible substance.

Funded by the Monaco Government since 2006, the Monaco-Mongolia joint missions, under the patronage of HSH Prince Albert and under the aegis of UNESCO, are carried out each summer by the teams of Jamyian-Ombo Gantulga, head of the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Sciences of Mongolia, and Jérôme Magail of the Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology of Monaco.

The two teams cooperate on three sites in the Arkhangai province: Khunnu of Gol Mod, the Buddhist monastery of Zayan Khüree and the Bronze Age necropolis of Tsatsyn Ereg, on which a research and exhibition centre was built two years ago with the support of the Prince’s Government.

Elisabeth Gramaglia Gondeau, Honorary Consul of Mongolia in Monaco, has visited the site of Tsatsyn Ereg for the third time, which has just been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List thanks to the work of the archaeologists.

Isabelle Picco, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Principality of Monaco to the United Nations, took part in the general debate of the UN’s  Committee on Economic and Financial Questions, held in New York on October 2.

The Ambassador reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Monaco to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Objectives (SDGs) and the Sustainable Development Programme by 2030.

Ms Picco underlined the important efforts made by the Principality in research and development. Monaco has set up entities to promote sustainable business, supports innovative projects, notably in the fields of information and communication technologies, health and the environment, and also backs specific financing solutions for innovation.

As a reminder, on July 17, the Minister of State presented the Principality’s voluntary national review on the implementation of sustainable development objectives at the High-Level Policy Forum.

Monaco’s choices concerning transport, water and waste management and its actions to preserve the environment make it an internationally-recognised player in the promotion of sustainable development.

Rock’n’Royals hit Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week may have just ended and while I could go on about what I loved … and detested … both on and off the runway, one style highlight that I’m currently obsessed with was by my favourite royal siblings Princess Charlotte Casiraghi and Princess Alexandra of Hanover (technically only Alexandra has a royal title but still).

At a glance of Anthony Vaccarello’s current offerings for Yves Saint Laurent, one would not immediately imagine the aristocracy leaping out of the palaces to stock their wardrobes with leather minidresses, sheer tops that leave NOTHING to the imagination and sexy thigh high boots. Well forget what you assumed about royal style once again.

At the Yves Saint Laurent Spring 2018 show in Paris, set against the stunning backdrop of the Eiffel Tower, Monegasque princely family member Charlotte Casiraghi, 31, cut a striking figure in a sheer black blouse – yes, you heard me correctly SHEER – black leather shorts, knee high suede boots, and a black overcoat with leather accents. She completed her look with a touch of vamp in the form of black eyeliner and blood red nails.

Little sister Princess Alexandra, 18, opted for a more conservative but still cool and youthful ensemble of a black and white mini polka dot button up, leather motorcycle jacket, skinny jeans and black patent pumps paired with a Yves Saint Laurent Belle de Jour clutch. Sitting front row on probably the most enviable sister date ever, the two took in the models strutting past in avant-garde white lace brassiere incarnations, exaggerated peplum dresses and blazers with oversized zebra print lapels.

Whether or not the pair will be spotted rocking any of these pieces next season remains to be seen but going by the current trend of royals bucking the old stereotypes, we might be rather surprised come next spring.
