The Monaco Junior Chamber of Commerce is organising the “Get in the Ring” competition on December 1 for the fourth year in a row.
This international event, which is in English, brings together talented startups which compete against each other in front of an audience of investors, influencers and potential customers.
MonacoTech, the newly established Incubator-Accelerator initiative in Monaco will welcome these startups for a Coaching Day where mentors from all sectors, such as Marketing, Finance, Law, and New Technologies, will be with them to help them prepare for the Competition. The day will last from 8:30 am until 5:30 pm.

The main event will be Night Pitching, an American-style show with a ring in its centre, rather like a boxing match, which will take place from 6 pm to 11 pm at the Meridien Beach Plaza. The spotlight will be on startups which that defend their projects seeking the acceleration for the growth they believe in.
There will be five intense 30-second rounds per participant touching on presentation, achievements, market research, and financial analysis. This will be followed by questions from the jury composed of investors.
The competition is held in English and welcomes a wide audience. The winner of the competition will be directly qualified for the world final of “Get in the Ring” to be held in March 2018, whose venue remains a secret. The evening at Meridien Beach Plaza will end with a networking cocktail.
Robert Calcagno, Director of the Oceanographic Museum, has written a book “Sea Turtles, The Great Odyssey”, which will be published on November 22.
The 144-page book, which includes a preface from Prince Albert, looks at the mistreatment by humans and how the reptiles suffer from most of the pressures exerted on the marine environment, from the coast to the high seas: urbanisation, overfishing, collisions, pollution, the accumulation of plastic and other dangers.
For the first time in their long history, they may not survive the profound changes they face.
Robert Calcagno served as Minister of the Environment of the Principality between 2006 and 2009, before taking over the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco in 2009. He organises and hosts many international meetings – his favourite themes involve ocean governance, marine protected areas, the protection of sharks and the preservation of the biodiversity of the deep seabed – with the goal of mobilising political and socio-economic players and creating synergies with the community.
In keeping with Mr Calcagno’s commitment to putting his ideas into practice, sea turtles will soon benefit from a care centre in Monaco, currently under construction as an extension of the Oceanographic Museum. Located in the open air, it will consist of a clinic and a convalescence basin, allowing injured turtles to recover in peace. Visitors will be able to observe these animals and understand their fragility.
Mr Calcagno is the author of several books for the general public.

The theme of this year’s TEDxMonteCarlo, held at the Grimaldi Forum on Saturday, may well have been “License to Know” but it certainly left the 600 audience members saying “Never Say Never Again”.
Despite the vast range of subjects – from the environment to education, and from cyber security to sports – there was a deep unity throughout the presentations drawn from speakers’ personal experiences. The overall message was inspirational, instructive and empowering.
The event organised by Nazanine Matin and her TEDxMonteCarlo team featured 18 brilliant guest speakers giving 15-minute talks over seven hours.
“I’m very happy with the outcome,” Nazanine told Monaco Life. “The speakers, the team, the partners and everyone did an amazing job. It was above my expectations and I’ve already heard of some new connections that were made.
Nazanine also commented, “The town is buzzing about the talks and many who attended the event have already sent us really wonderful messages. I’m very lucky to have the team that I have, without them, this day wouldn’t have been possible.”
The afternoon flew by, as several people wearing TEDx badges commented during the two networking breaks, unsurprising really when engaging presenters can make complex topics and technologies easily palatable and utterly captivating.
“This year’s TEDxMonteCarlo shows the diversity of talent and ideas our Principality has to share with the rest of the world,” said Marco Antonio Orsini, President of Monaco-based IEFTA – the International Emerging Film Talent Association. “What struck me most was the age of participants on and off stage. Our future generation of leaders and policy shapers were there in full force. That is encouraging!”

The diversity in performances was perfectly punctuated, for example, by the juxtaposition of the hauntingly beautiful artists Ride the Clouds playing their partly-improvised song followed by security specialist Sascha Kunkel explaining how to stay safe in the face of rampant terrorism.
“I’m not saying anything you haven’t already heard, you can achieve anything you put your mind to,” commented Emily Rolfe, who at the age of 16 completed the 250km Marathon des Sables, billed as the world’s toughest footraces.
However, Emily was not the youngest speaker at Saturday’s event, this title fell to the incredible Fiorina Berezovsky. At just 10 years of age, the youngest participant at the last Chess Olympiad in Azerbaijan can declare “Checkmate!” in five different languages.

For Steve Gale of Gale Force Computing in Monaco – who is also one of 49 people to complete all ten editions of the Nice-Cannes Marathon on November 5 – Saturday was his first time attending a TEDx event. “For me the TEDxMonteCarlo conference made for a fascinating day. I knew several of the subjects, such as cybersecurity, desert running and robotics, would be right up my street. What surprised me was how interesting the talks were on subjects normally outside my realm. It’s good to widen one’s horizons.”
One audience member, who resides in Toronto, summed up the power of the TEDx community when he told me he chose to re-direct his Toronto-Ireland flight via Monaco specifically to catch TedXMonteCarlo. Kudos indeed from a discerning TEDx fan.
I can’t help but agree: I’d definitely go out of my way to catch next year’s TEDxMonteCarlo.
On Monday, November 13, Minister of Finance and Economy Jean Castellini opened the annual conference at the Fairmont Monte-Carlo Hotel of officials of the Tourism and Congress Department’s (DTC) bureaus abroad.
Every year, this conference is a unique opportunity to bring together the office’s representatives, some of who work thousands of kilometres away each day to promote the Principality.
Each office had the opportunity to present the figures and trends in its market for 2017 and announced the various events and projects it plans to organise during the coming year.
During the week, these representatives of the Principality will also be able to meet Monegasque tourism partners, including restaurants, hotels, incoming agencies, transport operators, and others.
This is also the unique moment in the year when it is possible for these professionals to discuss together the strategies that will be developed and applied in foreign markets to increase the economic impact of tourism in the Principality.
The DTC and its 10 offices organise more than 250 such operations each year in more than 20 countries.

The Ballets de Monte-Carlo were on tour in China, from November 3 to 11, to present Le Songe and Lac, choreographies by Jean-Christophe Maillot, and enjoyed a huge success.
On November 3 and 4, the Company was invited for the first time to the Macao Cultural Centre, which was founded in 1999 when Macao became part of China after 400 years as a Portuguese colony. Well-endowed with international programming, it is recognised for its quality and innovation in theatre, music, dance, opera, exhibitions, and conferences.
The two performances of Le Songe, choreography by Jean-Christophe Maillot, a play written in 2005 and danced 73 times around the world, received a very enthusiastic welcome from the Chinese public on each evening.
From November 8 to 11, Les Ballets were in Guangzhou for four performances, in the prestigious Guangzhou Opera House, the 46,000 sqm architectural achievement designed by architect Zaha Hadid which was inaugurated in May 2010.
This was the second time that the Ballets de Monte-Carlo has been invited to perform at the Guangzhou Opera House, thanks to the trust established over almost 20 years with the president of the Chinese production company Beijing Joyway Promotions, Jurek Zhang Ligang.
Lac, created in 2011 by Jean-Christophe Maillot and already danced 85 times worldwide since its creation, was presented for the first time in Guangzhou and for the third time in China, after Shanghai and Beijing in 2013.
On the sidelines of the performances, the Monaco Tourism and Congress Bureau, based in Beijing, promoted the destination Monaco to guests: journalists, and travel agencies.
There are no if, and, or buts about it, winter is definitely coming (don’t let the odd day of sun fool you). There’s a chill in the air, the days are greyer, the Christmas decorations have begun to pop up around the Principality and Starbucks is playing non-stop Christmas music.
Layering is a must now, bring those winter boots out and call the furrier. All around Monaco pieces from the Fall/Winter 17 runways are popping up on residents turning Monte Carlo into one big fashion show and I love it although it makes my head ache trying to mentally register all the labels. Although the streets are getting scarcer the competition is getting fiercer. Style never sleeps, even when there’s nobody around. Here are my favourite looks from the weekend.
Camila Coutinho
@camilacountinho Brazilian superstar blogger Camila Coutinho popped in for the weekend. If you noticed an influx of stylish Brazilians in town, MOB brand was in town for a campaign shoot starring Coutinho and supermodel and L’Oréal Ambassador Valentina Sampaio. Camila, best known for her blog “Stupid Girls”, looked holiday party ready at the port in a gray lurex dress with a choker collar. Against a backdrop of the carnival Camila was a shining star looking radiant in a simple but glam makeup look. Shot by Bruna Valenca, I’m kinda obsessed with Camila and her sparkling night vibes.
Antoniya Toneva
@tocestyle Freeze The Breeze swimwear designer Antoniya decided she wanted to play with contrasts for her weekend looks. Duality with black and white, soft and feminine with a touch of hardness. A casual knit jumper juxtaposed with a black leather Chanel bag attached to a belt for a bit of S&M chic in a way Karl Lagerfeld makes romantic white pants (who cares if it’s after Labour Day), loafers perfect for Saturday strolls around the Condamine and a black leather jacket in case the sun decides to hide again makes for a pretty interesting look, simple but not so much. That Chanel bag/belt really elevated this look. This holiday season remember that accessories make the outfit!
Jonathan Germain
@jonathan_germain Resident influencer Jonathan Germain blessed us with his presence out and about in Monaco with his perfectly shaped eyebrows. Has a good boy gone bad? That seems to be the look he was channelling in a leather jacket by German brand Tigha. With a tiger on the back and the “Tigha Pride” logo Jonathan wasn’t trying to stand out in a sea of boring moto jackets. Writing to his 340K followers “baby I can make your dreams come true” this style genie has us double tapping obsessively on his “grams”.
Messalina
@messalina72 This lover of her “beautiful life” and someone’s “official girlfriend” was craving something sweet this weekend but her outfit had me feeling a bit salty. Channelling the Edwardian or maybe Victorian era in a white ruffled blouse under a cheetah fur coat, leather pants, fringed boots, and a Hermès belt her look was romantically roaringly aggressive at the candy market. She seems to enjoy a little sugar in her life. Overall the look is cute and the leather pants really elevate it past basic.
Kseniya Korp
@kseniya_korp My fave look of the weekend, to be honest, came from this Russian gem. In between dashing around the Principality and having Michelin-starred meals, Kseniya kept it casual and chic in a blue fitted blazer over a red and white striped sweater (how positively nautical!), a navy blue current season Lady Dior bag, blue skinny jeans, cute ankle booties from current season Dior accessorised with a Chanel brooch and currently sold out Gucci L’Aveugle Par Amour sunglasses.
I mean this look is everything and shows you that piling on designer doesn’t have to be tacky or in your face. She knows she’s in Dior, I know she’s in Dior, you know she’s in Dior because I just told you but not in a way that says look at me. This look (though not the specific brands I named) is very accessible and achievable. It’s a summer look redone for cooler temperatures. Kseniya wins the weekend style roundup.
