After the meetings in Monaco in March and in San Marino last May, Antoni Martí Petit, Head of the Government of the Principality of Andorra, received his counterparts Serge Telle, Minister of State and Nicola Renzi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Political Affairs and Justice of the Republic of San Marino, in Andorra, on November 20 and 21 for further discussions.

These now regular meetings serve to strengthen tripartite cooperation between the states with which the European Union opened negotiations in 2015 with a view to concluding an Association Agreement. In particular, they aim to better understand the specificities of each State, in order to identify complementarities and strengthen coordination in the negotiations.

The three heads of government were also received in Private Audience by HE Joan Enric Vives, Archbishop of Urgell, Co-Prince of Andorra. Later they held a press conference at the Andorran National Auditorium and were interviewed by Andorran Television, AndoraDiffusio, for a programme dedicated to Europe.

Monaco’s Minister of State declared, “Europe wants (the) Europeans that we are. We will not give up what we are. (…) We are different but we also have common issues (…). These meetings serve to go into the details of what we must preserve, on the understanding that these association agreements will only be possible if they are individualised. We are working on these and on the best way to make them consistent and acceptable to the European Union, which is listening to us.”

The latest issue of Monegasque Annals, the Monaco History Review, an annual publication of the Palace Archives, has just been published.

Among the nine themes in this issue is the centenary of the First World War Battle of the Chemin des Dames, during which the future Prince Louis II distinguished himself in 1917.

Also featured is a commentary on the unpublished autobiography of the nineteenth-century Monegasque inventor Hercule Florence, to which the New National Museum of Monaco devoted an exhibition in 2017.

A superb illuminated document of the sixteenth century, the doctoral degree in law of Hercule Grimaldi, father of Prince Honore II, is also included as is a scholarly study on the place of Rubens’ paintings in the ancient collections of Princely art.

Edition No. 41 is available for €30 in bookstores and newsstands in Monaco, but is also sold  for €10 online.

AS Monaco’s Vice-President, Vadim Vasilyev, said the club was hugely disappointed after Tuesday night’s 4-1 rout at home to Leipzig. The visitors scored four times in the first 45-minutes, knocking the spirit out of the home team.

Speaking to reporters after the Champions League game, Vasilyev said: “We have messed up the European campaign. In football, there are difficult times, and this is one of them. I didn’t like that the players’ heads dropped so quickly.”

Falcao’s goal two minutes before half-time was the only consolation from the match, which Monaco would have had to win in order to have a chance of going any further in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Coach Leonardo Jardim may have had the summer departure of top players such as Kylian Mbappe in mind when he said: “This year, in this group, we have paid dearly for our mistakes. Also we haven’t been up to the standard of such a competition, with three defeats at home and two draws away.”

Monaco remain in second place in France’s Ligue 1, and now all eyes will be on the home game against league leaders and arch-rivals Paris Saint-Germain at Stade Louis II on Sunday, November 26.

His equestrian show mixed acts from the fair – jugglers, equilibrists, funambulists and even trained dogs and monkeys – and modern circus was born on horseback.

Philip Astley, the inventor of modern circus, quickly crossed the Channel, as he was invited to perform in France by King Louis XVI.

To pay tribute to Philip Astley, Princess Stephanie, President of the International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo Organising Committee, has invited the best “Equestrian Pas de Deux” in the history of modern circus, featuring Jozsef Richter Junior and his young wife Merrylu, to the Fontvieille ring

One of the most astonishing moments in this act is the balancing of Merrylu on the head of her husband, as he stands on two horses circling the ring.

While the Monte-Carlo Circus Festival wishes to highlight traditional circus, it is also a place for creation and innovation. The Organising Committee has also invited the Simet trio to the festival with their “Astronauts” act: the three Hungarian artistes perform gravity-defying aerial acts on their gigantic moving arc.

The International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo takes place from January 18 to 28 under the big top in Fontvielle. Tickets now available online.
