The US government has congratulated Monaco on the occasion of National Day, celebrated on Sunday, November 19.

Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson wrote: “On behalf of the government of the United States of America, I would like to congratulate the people of Monaco as you celebrate La Fête du Prince.

“Monaco has been a trusted partner of the United States since 1866, and our government values the warm relations and enduring friendship between our two countries. By maintaining this partnership, we can continue to advance our joint interests in maintaining peace and expanding prosperity on both sides of the Atlantic.”

Ties between the two countries were significantly strengthened by the marriage of Prince Rainier to the actress Grace Kelly, who became Princess Grace of Monaco, in 1956.

Monaco’s National Day was also celebrated in Moscow. HE Mireille Pettiti, Ambassador of the Principality of Monaco to the Russian Federation, hosted a diplomatic reception on Monday, November 13, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Moscow. The evening was attended by a total of 150 people.

Numerous foreign Ambassadors accredited to the Russian Federation, as well as a number of Russian dignitaries took part in this event, including Olga Golodets, Deputy Prime Minister, Alexandre Pankin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mikhail Shvydkoy, Special Representative of the Russian President for International Cultural Cooperation.

In her welcoming speech, Ms Pettiti presented the unique characteristics of the Principality and an outline of the foreign policy of the Prince’s Government. She also spoke of the excellent state of bilateral relations between Monaco and Russia.

Schumacher’s Monaco car sells for record figure

Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari F2001 Formula One car has sold at auction in New York for a record €6,392,650 ($7,504,000), significantly more than the auction house’s estimate of €3.4 million ($4 million).

The German driver’s 91 race wins and seven championships made him the most successful driver to have ever raced in F1, auctioneers RM Sotheby’s said.

The car was driven by Schumacher in 2001 at F1’s most prestigious race, the Monaco Grand Prix. It was also in this car that he won his fourth Driver’s Championship, winning the 2001 Hungarian Grand Prix.

The iconic Ferrari is in racing condition and the manufacturer has agreed to help with the transport and storage of the car. Part of the record price will go to Schumacher’s charity, Keep Fighting, which works for safer roads.

Schumacher himself is currently still recovering from the traumatic head injuries he suffered in 2013 in a skiing accident.

Champions League hurdles before PSG visit

Monaco’s footballers turned in a lacklustre performance on Friday, with a 1-1 draw against newly-promoted Amiens, raising a question mark over next weekend’s meeting in Monaco with league leaders Paris Saint-Germain.

Meanwhile, PSG’s 4-1 victory against Nantes on Saturday put the Paris side six points clear of Monaco in France’s Ligue 1. Edison Cavani, who scored two of the four goals for the winners said: “”We aren’t thinking about Monaco, just about winning.” Kylian Mbappe was benched for the game.

PSG have a Champions League game against Celtic mid-week, and whether that will dampen their performance in Monaco on Sunday remains to be seen. Monaco have their own Champions League challenge during the week as they host RB Leipzig at Stade Louis II on Tuesday night.

As part of it’s free Wellbeing Happy Hour series, Stars’n’Bars welcomes two women to talk about feng shui and psychogenealogy on Tuesday, November 21.

Feng shui specialist Tiina Gallas, founder of OZERA Interiors, graduated as an Interior Architect from the École Nationale du Bâtiment in France with a specialisation in Sustainable Interior Design. She then went on to obtain a Feng Shui Interior Designer certificate from the New York Institute of Art & Design.

“Today, many of us strive for a healthy, joyful and balanced living in this fast-paced modern world and a well-designed space can contribute to finding harmony in our lives,” the native Finn, who has lived in the region for 15 years, said.

“My specialisation in feng shui and ecological interior design will help create balanced, healthy and harmonious interiors without forgetting aesthetic details, the touch of luxury, sensuality and beauty.”

The second guest speaker on Tuesday is Nancy Novena, an authorised Bach flower consultant. It was in the 1930s when British homeopath Edward Bach claimed that the dew found on flower petals retain imagined healing properties of that plant.

Ms Novena uses Bach flower techniques to reharmonise emotions – to build self-confidence and find happiness and inner peace – as well as for psychogenealogy, a form of therapy that identifies and provides insight into negative patterns that can be transmitted across generations.

Stars’n’Bars weekly health hour, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, takes place at the downstair’s bar and provides an opportunity to meet wellbeing specialists while enjoying complimentary snacks. No entre fee or reservation required.

Tuesday, November 28, features Beauty Concept’s Salima and Habiba Vilches of Reiki Usui.

#MyMonacoStyle Weekend Report

#MyMonacoStyle Weekend ReportHappy Monday all! Hope you guys had an amazing weekend and celebrated National Day in style! I have to say, this weekend I wasn’t blown away by the street style so much as usual thus it’s another week of the usual suspects. Angela Orlova slayed the game in daytime diamonds. Mrs Cat was out and about coordinating with her dogs. Officially though Princess Charlene was the winner of the fashion Olympics this weekend in her Akris ensemble.

However, the outerwear is starting to place front and centre on the streets of the Principality. The furs are being pulled out of their bags and the battle of Who’s the Hairiest One of All is beginning. Guess who’s the mirror on the wall? Me.

Angela Orlova

Angela Orlova

@orlovaangela If I could fill the weekend report with only the fashionable escapades of jewellery designer Angela Orlova I would, but alas I must play fair and give everybody a chance at a day of online fame. Angela gave us fall vibes to the max in 50 shades of brown. Let’s start from the head down, shall we?

Donning a tan Loro Piana hat she looked ready to stroll the sunlit path of the starlight pavilions (check out her photoshoot with Tom Claeren). An unexpected chill? No worries, a casual Gucci mink fur should sort her out. Looking positively gangster in a white YSL smoking suit her Orlov Jewelry Serpentes Collection necklace gleamed like ice crystals on a sunny winter day. Christian Louboutin heels in a shade of truffle and an ostrich Hermès Kelly bag gave a bit of wild flavour to her look, although I doubt she’ll be traipsing through the woodlands dressed like this. Bling bling Angela, you shine bright like a diamond.

CAT

CAT

@cat98000 Oh my dear Cat. Is there anyone more passionate about fashion than she who coordinates her dogs’ leashes to her outfit? I THINK NOT! You can’t hide behind those Dior So Real sunglasses! I KNOW IT’S YOU! In perhaps a nod to the National Day festivities Cat’s colour of choice for this outfit was red. She looked positively cosy tucked into her turtleneck sweater underneath a fur gilet with her ever present Hermès Birkin slung over her arm, currently guest starring in red. She took her furry four-legged brood out for a walk, casual in her blue jeans and oxblood red flats. Riddle me this dear Cat … who decides the look of the day … you or the dogs? xoxo.

Samy Mendoza

Samy Mendoza

@mendozaftz If I had to wear one outfit for the rest of my life, hands down it would look a little something like this. Winter is coming and Samy is clearly ready. No chair? No problem! A Louis Vuitton trunk will do. Looking extremely lush and plush in a gray fur coat this baller popped champagne in an Adidas Originals tracksuit and Dsquared hat. Don’t like his look? Well he has a clear message for you!

Veronika Girba

Veronika Girba

@girba Perhaps this Russian doll is asking Santa Claus which list she’s on this year. We think nice, like her fashion sense. Tis the season for tartan, and we are really digging this look. Channelling a chic schoolgirl with her Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2016 monogram canvas drawstring bag, Veronika looked ready for whatever the weather threw at her in a white fur lined motorcycle jacket … well almost … those sneakers will come in handy when running indoor while Jack Frost comes nipping at your toes.

Antoniya Toneva

@tocestyle My, my, two features in a row for the Freeze The Breeze designer. There’s just something about the way she wears her outfits with confidence that has me giving a little digital nod of approval. This week an orange turtleneck sweater, mom jeans and brown boots are elevated by a silver quilted kimono style jacket. A perfect look for a Sunday stroll around the Principality, it’s a comfortable and casual and still cute look. I can’t say the same for the Carpisa bag. My dear let’s leave that at home next time.

It was a busy National Day weekend for the Princely family.

On Friday, November 17, Prince Albert and Princess Charlene distributed gift baskets to beneficiaries of the Monaco Red Cross on the occasion of the national holiday. Parcels were also offered to town halls of neighbouring municipalities.

The Princely Couple were the centre of attention on Sunday, November 19. Monaco’s Fête Nationale.

The tradition of National Day dates back to the reign of Prince Charles III, who in 1857 decided that November 4, the Sovereign’s Patron Saint Day, would be declared “Celebration of the Sovereign”.

Prince Rainier III first changed the holiday to April 11 and then moved it to November 19.
Although November 15 is the day of Saint Albert the Great, Prince Albert II kept the November 19 to celebrate National Day as a tribute to his father.

Sunday’s celebration’s started at 9:30 am with the Presentation of Arms and distribution of rank badges and medals in the Court of Honour of the Prince’s Palace.

The Thanksgiving Mass took place from 10:15 am until 11:15 am with a Te Deum at the Cathedral of Monaco.
