The 31st edition of the annual Telethon Monaco, to support the fight against rare, genetic diseases, kicked off yesterday, with the official opening of Telethon Village in the Port (South darse) followed by a Ferrari and Harley Davidson parade.

Entertainment includes ladder climbing with the Monaco Fire Department, stalls selling clothes and toys, Ferrari and Harley Davidson tours, laser rifle shooting, Scrabble tournaments and workshops. Temporary tattoos and hair braiding will also be available, and refreshments will be provided by the association Goutte d’Eau.

On Saturday, the agenda offers Handi Country at 2:30 pm, followed by Zumba (3:30 pm) and a lantern parada at 5:30 pm. At the Théâtre des Variétés, there’s a Studio de Monaco show (3 pm). A white truffle dinner, (€25/person) will be served at 8:30 pm.

On Sunday, there’s an Athena Music concert (2 pm), Zumba (4:30 pm) and a tombala (6 pm).

The Monaco Telethon Organisation shares a common goal with AFM-Telethon, the French Muscular Dystrophy Association, which not only supports rare disease research but also helps to support patients and families during each stage of the disease, from diagnosis to housing and care, and from education to employment.

Christmas cocktails in Monaco for Gustavia Yacht Club members, Clubhouse reopens

champagne

It has just been announced that the Clubhouse in Gustavia will reopen on December 12. However, until a few post-Irma “short-term inconveniences” can be ironed out – no air conditioning, no washing or bathroom facilities, and drinks will be served in disposable cups – opening hours will be limited to between 6 pm and 9 pm.

Meanwhile, on Monday, December 18, the Commodore is hosting a soirée in Monaco for Gustavia Yacht Club members from 6:30 pm to 9 pm.

Over Christmas drinks and canapés, the gathering is to bring together those members of the Club who have not left yet for warmer climates ahead of the holiday season and to celebrate the New Year.

Updates will be given on the preparations to open the Clubhouse in Gustavia, on the status of the IRMA disaster relief fund and the latest on reciprocal arrangements with other Yacht Clubs.

Gustavia Yacht Club also hosted a joint event with the Manhattan Yacht Club in New York on December 6, represented by Treasurer Ken Griggs and interim Club Manager Celia Meralikan, who is now in St Barts in an attempt to open the Clubhouse as early as possible.

Members who wish to attend the Monaco Christmas cocktail should contact Celia Meralikan at Gustavia Yacht Club.
