On February 22, the Chambre Monégasque de la Mode (CMM) donated €15,000 to the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation.

A cheque was presented by Federica Nardoni Spinetta, President of the CMM, together with Secretary-General Mireille Pietri and Celina Lafuente de Lavotha, Communications Attaché, to help support the Foundation’s mission to raise public awareness about the dangers of water, and to teach children how to swim while learning safety measures through the “Learn to Swim” and “Water Safety” programmes.

This donation is possible thanks to Monte-Carlo Fashion Week (MCFW), which gains in prestige year after year, and has become a main fixture in the international fashion calendar. The forthcoming sixth edition of the Monte-Carlo Fashion Week, scheduled from May 16-20, at the Fashion Village of Fontvielle, is “honoured” to renew its support for the Princess’ Foundation for a second year in a row.

The MCFW 2018 will have a rich calendar of presentations and fashion shows for resort, swimwear, couture, and Spring/Summer 2019 ready-to-wear collections, directed to the local and international press, buyers and to selected VIP guests.

Conferences and round-table discussions with fashion experts are also part of the programme that together with attractive social events will be held around the Principality.

From February 21 to 23, Monaco’s Directorate of International Cooperation brought together in the Principality the six referring doctors of the Sickle Cell Network, from West Africa-Madagascar, to finalise a common guide for the management of the disease.

During these three days the doctors finalised the medical guide that will enable health personnel, with little or no training, to the management of the disease, to detect and to treat sickle cell patients in a health centre in a rural area or in a referral hospital.

The dissemination of this guide, in the six countries concerned, is scheduled for June 19, World Day for the fight against sickle cell disease.

Created in 2013 by the Directorate of International Cooperation, the “Sickle Cell Network” West Africa-Madagascar aims to strengthen partnerships between health professionals and patient associations in six countries: Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Mauritania, Senegal and Madagascar.

Sickle cell disease, an inherited haemoglobin disease, is the world’s foremost genetic disease with 50 million carriers. Despite this high prevalence and a very high mortality rate among unsupported children under five, the disease is poorly understood and efforts to research and access treatment remain rudimentary.
