On the occasion of the launch of the International Decade of Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028, the Permanent Mission of Monaco to the United Nations (UN) expressed the Principality’s concerns regarding the important issues and challenges facing the international community.

Underlining its importance, the event was attended by the President of the General Assembly, HE Miroslav Lajčák, and the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres.

The Monaco Mission highlighted the actions taken by the Monegasque authorities to reduce and control the national consumption of water. Also highlighted was Monaco’s commitment at the international level, in particular through its financial support of numerous cooperation projects, such as those promoting access to drinking water for vulnerable populations or those promoting sustainable management of this problem.

Later in the day, on the occasion of the UN Press Correspondents Association evening, the Principality awarded the Prince Albert II Prize, which recognises the best journalistic coverage of UN activities highlighting climate change, biodiversity and water.

MyMonacoStyle Weekend Report

Weekendstyle 26/03

O M G. What a weekend! I think I’m going to need a whole week to decompress from it. Where do I begin!? Uncle Karl (Lagerfeld) was in town for the Bal de Rose! Speaking of the Bal de la Rose the haute couture fantasy was in full effect!

Don’t ask me for my best dressed, it would be impossible to decide. Princess Caroline in CHANEL! Charlotte Casiraghi in SAINT LAURENT! Speaking of Charlotte Casiraghi … she is rumoured to have announced her ENGAGEMENT to Dimitri Rassam Saturday night (FINALLY). I so ship this couple.

It would seem fitting on the weekend of one of Monaco’s most fashionable events that the town would be brimming with street style. It wasn’t just brimming … it overflowed. Here are my favourite pre- and post-Bal de Rose style moments from this weekend.

Karolina

Karolina Zubkova-Mattes

@karolinasfairytale In Europe since the time of the great Roman Emperors, the colour purple has come to represent royalty, wealth, and extravagance. It seems only fitting that the wife of “The Bill Gates of The Alps” would wear it. Casually on a balcony at the Hermitage, Karolina does not go unnoticed in a purple Versace suit while casually sipping tea, although she has been known to spill some piping hot as well (we’ll never forget the Instagram cat fight with a certain German designer’s ex …).

As usual, style never sleeps with the conspicuous Zubkova-Mattes and possibly neither does she as she was spotted the next day after a late night at the Bal de Rose climbing into her bright pink Audi R8 …in bright yellow high heels, of course. In the library that is Monaco fashion, my favourite book by far is the fairy tale of Karolina.

Sylwia

Sylwia

@sylwia_k__ Giving a whole new dimension to the term “Foxy Mama” this mother of two donned a fur gilet paired with a beige ensemble from La Promesse. A fashionista mum out in the wild environment of Monaco is useless without protection from judging eyes and Slywia is well-equipped with her Louis Vuitton Monogram Concorde bag and Louis Vuitton Star Trail lace up boots guaranteed to make even the most aggressive of style predators end up as prey. Like most beautiful and wild animals, look but don’t touch.

Bryan

Bryan

@murdabryan_ Bryan oh Bryan, we had so many good things to say about your amazing personal style and the way you pair streetwear and luxury brands (these days they are one and the same), from your Moncler puffer to your Balenciaga Triple S Sneakers but you blocked us on Instagram. Don’t worry, perhaps you dodged a future bullet. The end.

Kerry Tetro

Kerry Tetro

@kerry_tetro I wish everyone could take mirror selfies as well as Kerry. Instead my feed is still full of dirty toothpaste stained mirrors, blurry pictures and bad angles. I’m kinda obsessed at how casual this outfit appears but at closer inspection, of course, it all luxed out. Everything about this look is on point, from the super on the trend retro cat-eye sunglasses to the casually undone just so trench coat over a Gucci t-shirt. Add to that a Hermès Evelyne bag thrown over the shoulder and voila, you’ve got a look that says, “I want to blend in but if you happen to notice me it’s not my fault if you get jealous.” I noticed. I’m jealous.

Helena

Helena

@helenatoe HELENA HAS FUN her Instagram proclaims and I’ll second that proclamation after a quick scroll through her feed. This blonde bombshell touched down in Côte d’Azur and hit the ground running in the style marathon that is life here. Helena enjoyed the sunshine in Monaco in a navy blue silk floral blazer paired with white just-so-frayed jeans that grazed her oxblood ankle boots. See guys, sometimes style can be as simple as a blazer jeans and boots! I mean if you’ve got Helena’s genetics that’s not a bad thing as well.

The Monaco-based company Silversea Cruises is cutting one of its ships in half in order to add 15 metres to the overall length of Silver Spirit. The operation is currently underway at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Palermo, Italy, and will involve more than 500 skilled workers and almost half a million man hours.

The prefabricated 15-metre section has already been inserted to stretch Silver Spirit from 195.8 to 210.7 metres.

Silversea said that the project is a first of its kind involving a cruise ship, adding that the purpose is to create more space in public areas and “enhance Silver Spirit’s facilities”.

“Witnessing these breathtaking phases of the Silver Spirit lengthening project has filled us with pride and excitement,” said Barbara Muckermann, Chief Marketing Officer of Silversea.

“The lengthening and refurbishment of Silver Spirit will replicate the modern elegance of our latest vessel to make for a more luxurious travelling experience. We are eager to share the new and improved layout of our cherished ship with our valued guests.”

The transformation will continue until May 1, 2018.

Steve Wynn liquidates Wynn Resorts holding

Macau-based casino operator Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd, a strategic partner of Société des Bains de Mer, in which it holds a five-percent stake, is acquiring an estimated five-percent stake in US-based firm Wynn Resorts Ltd. As a result, Monegasque citizen Steve Wynn, will effectively have no financial holding in the company that bears his name.

According to Wynn Resorts, Galaxy Entertainment “has agreed to purchase 5.3 million primary shares of Wynn Resorts at a price of US$175 [€142] a share, resulting in US$927.5 million [€750 million] of gross proceeds to Wynn Resorts.”

Galaxy Entertainment Vice-Chairman Francis Lui Yiu Tung said in a prepared statement included in the release: “This is a unique opportunity to acquire an investment in a globally recognised entertainment corporation with exceptionally high quality assets and a significant development pipeline.”

Wynn Resorts said in a later press release on Thursday, March 22, that it intends to “use the net proceeds from that [sale] to repay amounts to be borrowed under the 364-day term loan facility contemplated by the commitment letters that the company entered into on March 9, 2018, with an affiliate of Deutsche Bank Securities in an aggregate principal amount of up to US$800 million [€647 million].”

Wynn Resorts also announced on Thursday that “two long-term institutional investors, both of whom are currently investors in Wynn Resorts, have agreed to purchase the remaining eight million shares held by founder and former Wynn Resorts CEO Steve Wynn, thus demonstrating their confidence in the long-term strength of the company”.

The firm added, “The two sales, combined with previous sales by Mr Wynn, effectively eliminate his ownership in Wynn Resorts.”
