This Friday, October 12, at the Ecole Saint-Charles, the artist inaugurated ‘The Voyageur Collection’. This educational project, conceived in collaboration with the artist, is the first in a series of out-of-the-wall workshops based around NMNM collections. A team of the Museum, accompanied by a few fragments of fabrics, embroidery, headdresses and accessories from the collection of costumes of the Monte-Carlo Opera House in deposit at the Museum, will animate several workshops in schools, associations and medical proposing to discover this ‘Voyageuse Collection’. From touch to drawing to poetry, these creative workshops will also be an opportunity to raise awareness of the issues of conservation and restoration.

Celia Pym will host Saturday, October 13 at Villa Paloma a workshop called ‘Repair’ which will bring together fifteen people accompanied by their textile parts to repair. The meeting will also be an opportunity to discuss issues related to this approach, including how and why we repair, patch and mend the fabrics. Finally, this workshop will examine the qualities of tenderness and care inherent in the act of reparation.

From October 12 to November 18, the public can discover in ‘The Table of Contents’ Flying Gold Cape, result of a performance designed around a single artifact: a golden cape, embroidered with many sequins, initially created by the workshop costumes from the Monte Carlo Opera House and repaired by the artist. This performance took place in 2018 in Iceland, the United Kingdom and Monaco.

The #Girl2Leader campaign represents a special opportunity for girls to hear inspiring personal stories from women politicians, to learn how they got involved in politics and to have the chance to ask them questions. The Monaco-based non-profit organization SheCanHeCan is a proud partner in this initiative and spoke about its activities on promoting girls’ leadership.

SheCanHeCan is a Monaco-based organization, established in 2011, whose aim is to support and inspire girls to take leadership roles. It encourages both boys and girls to challenge deeply-held gender stereotypes and realize their full potential, independent of their gender. Its work is three-fold: conducting workshops on equality in schools and for companies, hosting Parent-Child Book Clubs and celebrating the Day of the Girl in Monaco every year since 2013.

#Girl2Leader is a global initiative which aims to empower girls from all over the world, encouraging them to consider leadership roles in their communities and to get involved in politics by connecting them with female politicians. To mark the International Day of the Girl, the Conseil National and the Odeon Tower were lit in purple on the evening of 11 October.

As part of the energy transition policy of the Prince’s Government, Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Councilor of Government – Minister of Equipment, Environment and Urbanism, presented yesterday, accompanied by Georges Marsan, Mayor of Monaco and Thomas Battaglione, Managing Director of SMEG, some 160 m² of photovoltaic panels recently installed on the roof of the nursery of the Roseraie. The City Council and the State jointly decided to make a photovoltaic generator on the building.

As solar energy is a major driver of the energy transition in Monaco, the Government has photovoltaic panels installed during the construction of public buildings. The State also encourages the local production of electricity from renewable sources, through a subsidy and the provision of a solar land register (https://transition-energetique.gouv.mc/).

This partnership between Mairie – Etat – SMEG is the result of the common will to develop exemplary projects in Monaco, particularly on public buildings. Marie-Pierre Gramaglia declares: “This equipment illustrates the determination of the Government to support the country in its energy transition”.

The power of the installation is 30 kWp. It will produce locally 35,000 KWh and 3500 kg of annual release of CO2 into the atmosphere will be avoided. A production that covers about half of the building’s consumption and is equivalent to the electricity needs of 7 homes. The technique chosen – a method of integration with buildings, on a roof tile – is a first on Monaco. It is an operational demonstrator that can be replicated to other buildings.
