Austrian Adi Hütter takes over as new coach of AS Monaco

AS Monaco has appointed Adi Hütter as its new coach. The Austrian, aged 53, has signed a two-season contract.

Adi Hütter takes over from Phillipe Clement, who was sacked on 4th June.

Last season, Monaco finished sixth in the French championship and did not qualify for European competition.

With a wealth of international experience acquired in Austria, Switzerland and Germany, Adi Hütter is now committed to AS Monaco until 30th June 2025.

After a career as a midfielder in Austria, where he played nearly 500 professional matches and wore the Austrian national jersey 14 times, Adi Hütter began his coaching career at the age of 37, accumulating 539 games on the bench since.

His career as a technician is punctuated with success. In Austria, with Red Bull Salzburg, he achieved the Cup-Championship double at the end of the 2014-2015 season. Subsequently, in Switzerland, with the Young Boys of Bern, he won the league title in the 2017-2018 season.

These successes led him to the Bundesliga where he coached Eintracht Frankfurt (2018-2021) as well as Borussia Mönchengladbach (2021-22).

In 2019 at Eintracht, Adi Hütter led his team to the Europa League semi-finals, and was voted coach of the year in Germany.

Hütter will lead his first practice on Wednesday at the ASM Performance Center.

“We are very happy to welcome Adi Hütter to AS Monaco,” said Thiago Scuro, Director of Football, in a press release. “In recent years, Adi has proven himself in different championships but also on the continental scene. These different experiences, added to his leadership and a profile marked by a lively, forward-looking style, correspond in all respects with what we expect in order to reach a new milestone with the first team.”

Athletics: Pedro Pichardo amongst latest names confirmed for Herculis Meeting

Pedro Pichardo in the triple jump

With the 2023 edition of the Herculis Meeting just a few weeks away, more athletes are being confirmed for the prestigious athletics event.

There will be 14 different events on the night of 21st July at the Stade Louis II. Elite sportsmen and women will compete in each and, as the Herculis Meeting approaches, more of their names are being revealed.

The 400m hurdles promises to be a highlight with Karsten Warholm, the Olympic champion and a strong favourite for the event. Frenchman Wilfried Happio, however, will be expected to give the Norwegian a run for his money.

Malaika Mihanbo to take part in Women’s Long Jump

The Men’s Triple Jump also promises great excitement. Pedro Pichardo, the current Olympic and World Champion, has confirmed his presence at the event. The Portuguese athlete is in good form so far this season and jumped 17m91 in Doha, despite a considerable breeze. However, Italian Andy Díaz has also been in top form and will certainly be in contention for a medal, as will Jean-Marc Pontvianne, who qualified for the Budapest Meeting with a personal best.

Malaika Mihanbo, the Olympic and World Champion, will be taking part in the Women’s Long Jump. However, she is still finding her feet this season and will want to make a statement in Monaco.

Hilary Kpatcha will be up there too in pursuit of a gold medal. The Frenchwoman has jumped further than 6m75 three times in a row this season and won gold at the European Championships. The highly consistent Larissa Iapichino is the current custodian of the Italian national record in the discipline and has been in good form. She could certainly upset the favourites for the event.

As more names are added to the lineup, excitement for the event is building. Tickets for the event are still available and start from just €15.

What to see during Monaco Art Week

monaco art week

Get ready for Monaco Art Week’s best year yet, with hundreds of beautiful pieces from exceptional artists the world over.

Monaco Art Week was created in 2018 as a way to federate Monaco’s cultural institutions. The idea took the form of a cross-Principality event that highlights and promotes its vibrant and ever-growing art scene, and in 2023, that community is bigger than ever.

The week, held from 4th to 9th July in conjunction with artmonte-carlo, will be a veritable potpourri of modern and contemporary art, design and fine jewellery melded together in an easy, walkable format… Think of it as a treasure hunt for the art and luxury goods crowd!

As such, the organisers have put together an exhibition trail that allows visitors to hit all the galleries and auction houses efficiently and not miss a thing. Numerous get-togethers, round tables and professional encounters as side events add that extra – and highly appreciated – element of depth and information.

15 galleries and auction houses, all presented by Monaco Life below, have signed on to be part of the 2023 event.

4/ HAUSER & WIRTH

Hauser & Wirth’s exhibition ‘John Chamberlain, The Poetics of Scale’ combines the American artist’s early poetry with his 1980s sculptural series, Gondolas and Tonks, exemplifying his poetic approach to materials and scale. As a special treat, Chamberlain’s poetry is shared publicly for the first time from a collection of works he wrote whilst attending Black Mountain College in North Carolina in the 1950s.

Irish artist Mary Ronayne’s satirical and colourful creations will be on display with Utopian Portraits at Yellow Corner in a show being put on by HOFA. Her works feature fun elements such as googly-eyed dinner guests being entertained by two women swinging above them on what looks to be giant cotton wool balls, people dancing on countertops and comical garden parties that can’t help but put a smile on even the grumpiest face.

Take it from us, it is impossible to pick a favourite.

12/ TEOS GALLERY MONTE-CARLO

German artist-photographer Alex Crieger is in the spotlight at a solo show at Teos Gallery. His works portray the high life, whether it be luxury goods or celebrities, and are aspirational and inspirational.
