ISM and ISN make prestigious list of the world’s top private schools

Both the International School of Monaco and the International School of Nice have earned themselves a coveted spot in the leading rankings of the best private schools in the world, the Carfax Education Schools Index.

Just 125 schools around the world have made the list, which breaks its entries down into eight key categories, such as Top UK Prep and Seniors Schools or Top 15 Schools in Europe.

“Now in its fourth year, the Schools Index has rapidly become a valuable resource for parents looking for the very best education for their child, wherever they are in the world – as well as for the private schools sector,” says Fiona McKenzie, Head of Education at Carfax Education. “This year’s guide has been comprehensively curated by international experts, with each school notably recognised for their own individual footprint in education, including academics, facilities, preparation for university entry, unique ethos and how they prepare students for life beyond academia.”

The International School of Monaco (ISM) caught the attention of the panel for its “learning experience that nurtures both academic prowess and global citizenship”. The Index also complimented ISM, which currently educates students of more than 50 nationalities, as being the “epitome of internationalism”.

The rankings gave credit to the International School of Nice too for its “cosmopolitan education”, adding that “the focus on contextualizing the curriculum, getting pupils to accept challenges in learning and not be afraid of failing and trying again, has had a positive effect on results, which are well above the global average”.

Two other French fee-paying schools also made it onto the European list: the bilingual Ermitage International School France and the British School of Paris. Over the border, in Northern Italy, the British School of Milan and the ICS Milan International School too ranked among the finest the continent has to offer.

“Demand for excellent schools remains high and is still fiercely competitive, as parents strive to ensure their child receives the strongest foundations to set them up for a lifetime of success,” concludes McKenzie.

Monaco’s ‘Attractiveness Unit’ on a mission in London

The newly conceived ‘Attractiveness Unit’ has joined some of Monaco’s biggest economic groups for a mission to the UK capital to showcase the assets of the Principality.

Evelyne Genta, Ambassador of Monaco to the United Kingdom, welcomed the new division of the Prince’s government, led by Frédéric Genta, as well as representatives of the Monaco Private Label, the Monaco Economic Board, the Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer Group and the Monegasque Association of Financial Activities (Association Monégasque des Activités Financières) to the Embassy of Monaco in London in the latter part of September.

The joint international mission is part of the Principality’s strategic plan for ‘attractiveness’, which brings together players in the public and private sectors who can represent the interests of the Principality outside its borders.

“London remains one of the most active cities for relocating new residents to the Principality but it is much more than that,” said Ambassador Evelyne Genta. “The British capital is an international hub from which we can reach a much wider audience. From India to South America, and through the Middle East, all nationalities pass through London and we strive every day to cultivate the network that this global centre of finance and commerce offers us.”

The second trip of its kind

The trip to London comes after a first mission to Brussels in June. The purpose was to strengthen ties with the British diplomatic network and showcase the assets of the Principality to local influential figures.

Over the course of two days on 21st and 22nd September, the Interministerial Delegate for Attractiveness and the Digital Transition, Frédéric Genta, as well as his team and partners were able to interact with around 30 entrepreneurs, investors and legal and tax experts from the London market, who are eager to develop a relationship with the Principality.

UK well represented in the Principality

Counting as nearly 7% of the total resident population in the Principality, according to 2023 figures by IMSEE, the Anglo-Saxon community is in the Top Three when it comes to most common nationalities in Monaco.

“The Principality has many assets to attract investors and entrepreneurs,” said Frédéric Genta. “The links we have with the London financial centre are close, and our expertise is shared. We are delighted with these meetings, which offer concrete potential for the Monegasque economy.”

Football: Monaco retake top spot after thrilling win against Marseille

AS Monaco players celebrate against Olympique de Marseille

AS Monaco bounced back from last weekend’s defeat to Nice and provisionally returned to the top of Ligue 1 thanks to a 3-2 victory over Olympique de Marseille on Saturday.

Monaco headed into the international break top of Ligue 1 but having taken just one point from a possible six in their last two matches, Adi Hütter’s side had slid down the standings.

They came up against a re-enthused Marseille side, who for the first time were guided by the explosive Gennaro Gattuso from the sidelines. The bombastic former AC Milan midfielder took over from Marcelino in midweek and his side were eager to impress.

Les Phocéens began like a freight train, pressing Monaco from the kick-off, winning the ball back and transitioning vertically. Iliman Ndiaye finished off the sweeping move just 36 seconds after kick-off to ensure a “horrific” start to the match, in the words of Hütter.

However, Monaco quickly struck back through Maghnes Akliouche, who got his first of the night after latching onto Wissam Ben Yedder’s knockdown. But Monaco weren’t level for long. Samuel Gigot volleyed home to send the Marseille away section into raptures.

Akliouche gives Hütter a selection headache

However, once again, Monaco showed the strength of character to bounce back. The scorer turned provider, Akliouche laying off Folarin Balogun to level the scores at 2-2, and in doing so making up for his double-penalty miss a week earlier.

Akliouche capped a perfect night by netting Monaco’s third, latching onto Balogun’s knockdown. The duo, in their first match together struck up a good partnership, leaving Hütter with a selection headache.

I’m happy with Akliouche’s 2 goals, and his involvement in the third. It isn’t easy for me as a coach, Eliesse (Ben Seghir) is coming back, whilst Aleksandr Golovin (suspension) and Takumi Minamino (injury) were also both absent. It’s difficult for me. It isn’t always easy to find the right lineup,” said the Monaco manager.

Temporarily top

Monaco held on for the victory with Marseille waning as the match progressed. Les Phocéens are now without a win in Ligue 1 since 26th August, whilst Monaco are back on the charge. They return top, even if only temporarily. Regardless of results elsewhere, they won’t fall out of the top two.

“We’ve given away a lot of points. We deserved this victory. I’m happy that we bounced back and we won against a really good OM side. That makes me very happy this evening,” said Hütter.

Monaco will be looking to back up their success when they travel to face Stade de Reims next weekend.
