easyJet launches new winter route from Nice to Prague

easyJet is set to launch direct flights between Nice and Prague this November, offering the perfect winter escape to the Czech capital’s famous Christmas markets and Gothic landmarks.

Starting this November, easyJet will be running twice weekly flights from Nice Côte d’Azur Airport to Prague until March. The service will operate on Fridays and Sundays, giving travellers from the French Riviera increased options for a quick getaway to the Czech capital – Eurowings and Smartwings also offer direct flights on this route.

The new route taps into Prague’s enduring appeal as a travel destination. Known for its rich cultural history, the city draws visitors year-round, but it truly shines during the winter months when its famous Christmas markets come to life.

In December, the city’s squares are filled with festive stalls offering traditional Czech treats, handcrafted gifts and seasonal decorations, all set against Gothic spires. Tourists also flock to landmarks such as Prague Castle, Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square, where the Christmas markets will be on daily from 30th November to 6th January.

The flights will arrive at Václav Havel Airport’s Terminal 2, providing easy access to the city centre. Travellers can reach central Prague via public transport by combining a bus (Line 119) and the metro (Line A) in about 40 minutes. For those in a hurry, taxis offer a faster 25-minute drive, and car rentals are available from the airport.

Prince Albert II opens CIESM Congress in Palermo

Prince Albert II has opened a key congress in Palermo Italy that has brought together over 400 scientists, political leaders, and civil society representatives from 23 member states.

Monaco’s head of state continued his visit to Palermo on Monday 14th October, where he presided over the opening ceremony of the 43rd International Commission for the Scientific Exploration of the Mediterranean Sea (CIESM) Congress. The event took place in the recently restored Scuderia Reale at the Palazzo dei Normanni.

Addressing the audience, Prince Albert acknowledged the historical significance of the gathering, noting Sicily’s deep connection to the Mediterranean. “We have come to the largest, most exotic island in the Mediterranean…a place where 25 centuries of history cast a long shadow,” he said, and expressed his gratitude to the local and regional authorities for making the congress possible.

The congress, which runs until 18th October, will address urgent environmental and scientific issues, including the impact of climate change on the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions. During his speech, Prince Albert highlighted CIESM’s role in fostering cross-border collaboration, saying, “CIESM is a unique, powerful alliance of researchers without borders.” He also underscored the importance of diversity in scientific inquiry, saying, “Diversity as a mosaic of ideas… it produces sparks of inventiveness and creativity.”

Following the opening, Prince Albert toured an exhibition dedicated to red coral research, which featured groundbreaking work by the Monaco Scientific Centre (CSM). The CSM recently achieved significant progress in reproducing these endangered corals in a laboratory setting. Prince Albert took the opportunity to congratulate the Sicilian authorities for their support of this initiative.

Later in the morning, the princely delegation visited several historical sites, including the UNESCO-listed Palatine Chapel. The day concluded with a meeting between Prince Albert II and local Sicilian officials, where topics of collaboration between Sicily and Monaco were discussed, and visits to the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the Church of Santa Maria dell’Ammiraglio.

Sips for a Cure: Lucia Cannes hosting breast cancer awareness event on the beach

Lucia Cannes’ Sips for a Cure event this weekend is all about raising awareness and generating important funds for breast cancer research.

Opened by Nikki Beach entrepreneurs Jack and Lucia Penrod earlier this year, Lucia Cannes has set itself the challenge of reviving the vibe and reputation of the city’s world-famous Croisette with a fresh new concept.

Monaco Life was invited down to the chic address in May to sample the restaurant’s Cuisine du Soleil-themed menu and taste the creative cocktails that are served in some of the most artful and unusual glasses on the Côte d’Azur. You can read all about the experience here.

The season is now winding down at the beachfront establishment – Lucia Cannes toasted its final day of beach action on 15th October with its Last Call for La Plage event in partnership with Veuve Clicquot – but the restaurant has pledged to stay open over the cooler months.

There is a second event planned in the coming days, but rather than being a celebration of an excellent debut summer, the goal of Sips for a Cure is to raise funds for a local cancer charity, La Ligue Contre le Cancer Alpes-Maritimes, and pay tribute to breast cancer sufferers against the backdrop of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Lucia Cannes will be championing this important cause all day long on Saturday 19th October, and the bar’s talented mixologists have crafted a very special cocktail specifically for the event.

The Rose Éclat combines fresh lemon with rose syrup and is beautifully garnished with edible rose petals. During the Sips for a Cure event, 100% of the proceeds from the sales of the cocktail will be donated to La Ligue Contre le Cancer Alpes-Maritimes and the research projects the association supports.

“As you sip on the delightful Rose Éclat, you’ll be part of a movement that supports those affected by breast cancer and promotes the importance of research in finding a cure,” says a spokesperson for Lucia Cannes.

The event is entirely open to the public and there is no entry fee. For more information, click here.
