For the first time in its history, the Monaco Fire Brigade has recruited a female into its ranks. She was among 10 new recruits to be inducted during a recent ceremony in Fontvielle.

The Monaco Fire Brigade welcomed the new recruits during a special ceremony at Place du Campanin in Fontvieille, during which they were symbolically handed their helmets under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Maxime Yvrard and in the presence of government officials and Father Christian Venard, Chaplain of the Public Force, who blessed the helmets.

In addition to being the first female to join Monaco’s Fire Brigade, the new recruit will in turn become the first soldier to serve the Principality.

The 10 young recruits come from a five-month training group called ‘Sapeur Matis Canavese’, named after one of the firefighters who died following an accident on 1st September 2021. This ceremony took place in the presence of his family.

“Their helmets were given to them by their respective sponsor, thus solemnly marking the end of a five-month training course,” said the government in a statement. “This strong act symbolises their commitment but also their belonging to the Corps. It also testifies to the fraternal bond which now unites them to their brothers in arms, whom they now join, in the missions of protection and safeguarding of people and property, in the Principality but also in the neighbouring municipalities. The recruits now share the Corps motto: ‘Courage – Dedication – Sacrifice’, with pride and dignity.”
