Bomanbridge Media has partnered with the Monaco Government Tourist Office Asia, represented by Horus Development & Consulting, to host Asia’s first edition of the Monaco Film Festival in Singapore next month.

The Monaco Film Festival will be presented at the Alliance Francaise Cultural Center from October 14 to 22, with a VIP Gala held at the Capitol Theatre during the eight-day event.

The festival itself promises be an exciting celebration of the attractions of Monaco and Monte-Carlo, featuring films that over the last few decades have used Monaco’s location and exotic image.

In recent years the Government Tourist Office has focused on attracting more visitors from the burgeoning Asian market.

More rail disruption on the way

Following the first wave of strikes against the new labour laws in France on September 12, more dates have been announced for further bouts of industrial action, including a national strike on Thursday, September 21.

SNCF is warning of train delays or cancellations on certain lines from Wednesday, September 20, at 7 pm to Friday, September 22 at 8 am.

Following the adoption of the final version of the five ordinances reforming the Labor Code on Friday, September 15, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the firebrand leader of “Insubordinate France” called on “the people” to “break into Paris” to demonstrate against what he called the social and undemocratic coup d’état.

Ominously, the militant CGT union may target fuel depots, prompting a warning of a “strike that will have very concrete consequences on the French economy”, from Jérôme Vérité, general secretary of the CGT-Transports federation.

Even retirees are being swept up in the mobilisation, and have been called upon to demonstrate at the call of nine unions and associations (CGT, FO, CGC, CFTC, FSU, Solidaires, FGR, and associations UNRPA, LSR).

A further day of action is planned again for Tuesday, October 10.

Cash-back tax deal for Falcao

Monaco’s star Colombian strike Radamel Falcao is ready to admit to tax fraud allegations in Spain in return for a cash settlement, according to Spanish press reports.

Falcao played for Atletico Madrid between 2011 and 2013, when the tax offences were alleged to have taken place. He had already paid €7.2 million into court two months ago, and if the eventual fine is the reported €6 million, he will receive a refund of the balance. The deal will avoid the need for a trial.

Other footballers to face tax enquiries in Spain in recent months are Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, PSG’s Neymar and Ronaldo. Falcao’s tax troubles centred on the sale of image rights, as did Neymar’s.

The Spanish prosecutor’s office has not confirmed the Falcao report.

Especially since the departure of Kylian Mbappe for PSG, AS Monaco is especially dependent on Falcao for its goals. In his latest outing, at home on Saturday, the striker scored a brace of goals against Strasbourg, with the eventual scoreline 3-0.

On Monday, September 18, AS Monaco Basket – Roca Team – met the media at a pre-season press conference at the Louis II Stadium.

Underlying the growing importance of the sport in Monaco, Minister of State Serge Telle, and Patrice Cellario, Minister of the Interior, were accompanied by Club President Sergei Dyadechko, Paul Masseron, Vice-President, Coach Zvezdan Mitrovic and Roca Team players.

Following the renewal of the convention between the Prince’s Government and ASM Basket, the Minister of State reaffirmed the Government’s support for Roca Team.

Zvezdan Mitrovic, the team’s coach, said that he could repeat the words of all 18 clubs in the Pro A league, that the main purpose of this season is to gain victory. “However, I would say that we are trying to build a team that’s capable of competing for the national title. Who knows the result? No one can say, but I believe that our ability can be said to be good.”

He added that new players who have joined the Roca Team have settled in well. “We all have the same objective,” he added.
