The State Property Authority, responsible for Monaco’s municipal housing, has notified tenants of the Helios building in the Condamine that there will be a temporary shutdown of the water supply during the night of Thursday, January 4, and Friday, January 5.
The short-term cutting of both hot and cold water supplies, between 11 pm and 5 am, has been timed to cause minimum inconvenience to users. The shutdown will enable necessary maintenance to take place, Rémy Rolland, Director of the State Property Authority, stated in a letter.
Residents are advised to let the water run until any discolouration disappears once the flow resumes. The department apologises to residents for the inconvenience.

Menton’s historic ties with Monaco will be celebrated in June 2018, as organised by the association Sites historiques Grimaldi de Monaco to mark the centuries-long affiliation of Monaco with a number of sites in France, many of which, like Menton, were once part of the Principality.
The first meeting of the Grimaldi Historic Sites of Monaco will take place during the Feast of St Jean in Monaco (June 24). Three sites have been invited to participate: the marquisate of Baux de Provence, in honour of hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, the county of Carladès, as well as the city of Menton, a former stronghold of the Grimaldi family.
The association was initiated in 2015 by Jean-Claude Guibal, then Deputy Mayor of Menton, at a ceremony attended by Prince Albert at the Palace of Carnoles, the former summer residence of the Princely family. The building became a Museum of Fine Arts in 1977 and then the property of the City of Menton.
“On the occasion of the 300th anniversary celebration of the alliance between the Grimaldis and Matignons, I suggested setting up a network of former Grimaldi strongholds that would show the friendship between France and Monaco,” Jean-Claude Guibal said.
“The goal is to gather, promote and strengthen the emotional ties between the different municipalities and the Principality… We share with Monaco an inestimable historical heritage that we must preserve but also transmit to make it live.”
Mr Guibal was awarded the prestigious title of Officer of the Order of Saint Charles by Prince Albert at a ceremony at the Prince’s Palace in November 2017.
The Automobile Club of Monaco has reminded competitors in the forthcoming Monte-Carlo Rally and the Monte-Carlo Historic Rally that it is strictly forbidden to tamper with “trees, poles, mail boxes, and houses” while on pre-rally reconnaissance missions.
“The Automobile Club of Monaco has received a lot of complaints from residents and community organisations. All competitors seen to disrespect these environmental laws, will immediately be excluded from the Rally,” the club said.
The 86th Monte-Carlo Rally starts on January 22 and finishes on January 28, with a route that is 50 percent different from last year’s course.
The 21st Monte-Carlo Historic Rally starts on January 31 and ends on February 7, once again pitting some of the world’s best drivers against the demanding conditions of the high country of the south of France.
AS Monaco has loaned out Terence Kongolo to English Premier League side Huddersfield for the rest of the season. The newly-promoted side is fighting to avoid relegation. Swiss-born Kongolo has won three caps for the Netherlands.
The 23-year-old defender joined from Feyenoord in the last transfer window, and has played for Monaco six times.
“Terence is a top player who we’ve followed from his time at Feyenoord. His big summer move to Monaco put him out of our reach at the time, but we’re delighted we can bring him in on loan now.
“He is a high-quality young centre back and will provide us with a great option for the rest of the Premier League season,” Huddersfield Head Coach David Wagner said on Tuesday, January 2.
Meanwhile, Souahilo Meite – the defensive midfielder was also recruited by the Principality in the summer of 2017 – has joined Bordeaux on loan from Monaco until the end of this season. His current contract is until June 2022 and the 23-year-old has played three times this season in French Ligue 1.
One of the Principality’s most frequented food shops, the Casino supermarket on 1er, will be open 24 hours a day until January 8. The service started on December 26.
Such round-the-clock opening times are more usual in countries such as the UK and US. French supermarket chains have not been able to follow suit so easily, largely due to trade union and state restrictions on working hours.
The supermarket chain says that the special opening hours are aimed at offering tourists and visitors the same level of service they find at home.
