Monaco’s town hall is organising a free event Sunday that the whole family can enjoy. From 8 am to noon, model car enthusiasts are invited to bring their radio controlled electric vehicle (models from 1:12 to 1:5) to the Stade Nautique Rainier III skating rink in the port.

In partnership with the Monegasque Model Federation and MC Clic, it should be an entertaining morning, if the weather cooperates. These Sunday car mornings will continue until March. More information on +377 93 15 06 09.

The Christmas market is closing this Sunday, and the festive lights across the city will be shut off until next year, except in Fontvieille, where they will continue to shine for the Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival and the new generation festival, until 4 February.

The skating rink will remain open until March 11. Tickets cost €6.70, €12 for a season’s pass for school children and students living in Monaco, or attending schools in the Principality or free for children under 5. Helmets for kids are available on request from staff.

Open Monday to Thursday 11 am to 6 pm (10 am to 6 pm from February 24); Friday 11 am to 11 pm (10 am to 11 pm from February 24): Saturday 10 am to 11 pm; and Sunday 10 am to 9 pm.

The rink will be exceptionally closed to the public Saturday, February 24, for the Monaco Skating Championship.

Compagnie Monégasque de Banque (CMB) has been named “Best Private Bank in Monaco 2017” by the financial magazine International Banker.

This award recognises the performances and innovativeness of the best managers and financial institutions as chosen by magazine readers who vote online, as well as by an independent jury consisting of financial sector experts that carried out a detailed evaluation of the Private Banks based on several criteria: management philosophy, innovation, perspectives for the coming months and customer service.

“This new award recognises our ability to listen to our clients and take their feedback into account,” said Werner Peyer, Managing Director of CMB. “As a boutique bank, CMB ensures a close relationship with its clients, allowing tailor-made solutions in order to respond to the individual needs of each project.”

Over the past three years, Compagnie Monégasque de Banque, which was founded in 1976 and specialises in Wealth Management, has been accumulating “Best Private Bank” and “Best Customer Service” awards in Monaco granted by well known, prestigious institutions in the financial sector.

This success is reflected in some key figures over the six-month period ending June 30, 2017, with shareholder equity rising 37.4% to €855 million and an operating profit of €24.06 million (+25%). Assets Under Management increased +7.3% to €12.009 billion.

In 2016, CMB, which has 220 employees made up of 20 nationalities, created its first Academy Women & Finance training course for women in family wealth management.  Then, in October 2017, the private bank launched its Philanthropy Academy aimed at creating synergies between the participants and philanthropic stakeholders in Monaco, a city-sate known internationally for its humanitarian actions.

Australian Cate Blanchett, 48, has been chosen as the 11th female president of the Cannes Film Festival jury. Her appointment has been seen by many as an endorsement of her strong stand against sexual harassment in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

Ms Blanchett was one of the first female stars to condemn the producer – a celebrity in his right – who stands accused by more than 100 women of harassment, coercion, sexual assault or rape.

She has received international prizes, including two Academy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and three BAFTA awards.

The 71st Cannes Film Festival takes place this year from Wednesday, May 8, until Sunday, May 20, and, as usual, precedes the Monaco Grand Prix.

Doctors warn of ‘brutal’ effects of seasonal flu

thermometer-1539191_1920

The neighbouring Region Sud (formerly PACA region) is the most affected in France with an outbreak of gastroenteritis, the doctors’ group Les Sentinelles reports. The elderly are the most seriously affected and dehydration is a warning sign.

Meanwhile, the seasonal influenza outbreak has resulted in almost five percent of the local population succumbing, placing the Region Sud in second place nationally behind Paris. Patients may suffer from very high temperatures, ranging up to 40 degrees and with the fever lasting for five days. The age of patients admitted to local hospital runs from one month to 90.

Elderly people are advised to drink liquids liberally. Those affected by influenza are in danger of contracting pneumonia, especially the very elderly, local doctors have warned. Local hospitals have reported a dramatic increase in cases – up by between 30 and 35 percent – in the last week.
