At its annual private conference in the Principality, CleanEquity Monaco (CEM) will showcase a new line-up of first class, sustainable technology companies this week, from March 8 to 9.

CleanEquity Monaco was co-founded by Prince Albert and Mungo Park, Chairman of Innovator Capital, in 2007 and has since raised $1.7 billion (€1.41 billion) by attending companies.

For the 2018 event, held under the High Patronage of Prince Albert, Innovator Capital’s CEM unit has sourced over 600 companies, of which some 30 have been selected.

Each company will present itself to prominent financial, strategic, sovereign and family investors, established industry representatives, government officials, end users and international trade media.

“This year we shall be taking an in-depth look at transitional energy strategies and the effect recent developments in ‘new nuclear’ might have on expert opinion,” CEM organisers say.

“We shall also discuss Industry 4.0, the fourth industrial revolution and its relevance to sustainability.”

Innovator Capital added that it’s “delighted” to have the continued support of Hobbs & Towne. Senior Partner Steve Kyryk, commented: “Hobbs & Towne is excited to be supporting CleanEquity Monaco 2018 and to be assisting the investors and entrepreneurs in their vital efforts to develop and commercialise sustainable energy and environmental impact businesses.

“We look forward to returning as sponsors of this prestigious event and to interacting with global leaders in the cleantech sector.”

SMEG signs Energy Transition Pact

Thomas Battaglione, Managing Director of SMEG, along with all the members of the management committee, has co-signed the National Pact on Energy Transition.

“SMEG is enthusiastically committed to this formidable shared ambition,” Mr Battaglione commented on Monday, March 5.

Monaco’s electrical power operator has for many years sponsored various sustainable initiatives both nationally and internationally.

E+ is an environmental label awarded to individuals, institutions or companies in Monaco that are in partnership with SMEG to act and contribute to the energy transition initiated by the Prince, the Minister of State and his Government.

The E+ Trophy ceremony, recognising those who have demonstrated lower energy consumption, took place on May 13, 2017, in the presence of Minister of State Serge Telle and HE Bernard Fautrier, CEO of the PA2F, along with Mr Battaglione.

Further from home, one of SMEG’s most challenging undertakings has been providing photovoltaic equipment for the new Aquatic Rescue and Training Centre in Loumbila, near Burkina Faso, a project close to Princess Charlene.

The €250,000 photovoltaic field with a power of 56 kWp, a stationary battery bank of 4700Ah under 48V, and a set of inverters to supply the pavilion with three-phase power was financed by SMEG.

This was supported by the association Energy Assistance Monaco (EAM), created in 2011, which provides assistance, logistics and equipment to populations without access to electricity.

Members of EAM are volunteers, employees of SMEG and Cometh Somoclim – trade professionals in air-conditioning, heating, ventilation and energy services in the Principality – who are committed to benevolent and ecological projects.

The centre was inaugurated on January 19 of this year, in the presence of Prince Albert, the Monaco Red Cross, the Burkinabè Red Cross and SMEG.

Mr Battaglione commented at the time, “The significant reduction in the electricity bill, often the largest expense of such a structure, will facilitate the financial start-up of the centre and thus contribute to its long-term training and action activities in the service of the poor.”

A reminder that on Sunday, March 18, the Mission for Energy Transition in charge of the National Pact for Energy Transition, will be Stars’n’Bars, who are hosting an afternoon of family-friendly workshops, games and exhibitions on how Monaco residents can reduce their carbon footprints.

The EcoHub event, from 2 pm to 5 pm, is free and open to all nationalities and ages.

The President of the National Council, Stéphane Valeri, received Laurent Anselmi, Director of Judicial Services, on Thursday, March 1, to discuss a number of subjects of mutual concern.

Mr Anselmi spoke of his wish to revitalise the existing connections between the various institutions of state concerning Monegasque law and to optimise the way in which the justice system works.

Another item discussed was the retirement arrangements for those working in a custodial capacity in the prison service, taking into account the hardships and risks involved in the discharge of their duties. Mr Valeri expressed the National Council’s support for those involved.

The final item on the agenda was the increasing nuisance of noise for those living in Monaco and the negative impact on their quality of life. Mr Valeri asked that the Director of Judicial Services consider reinforcing sanctions against those responsible for causing too much sound disturbance.

Yacht Club welcomes Monaco Swan One Design event

Hot on the heels of October’s successful and inaugural Nations Trophy, Nautor’s Swan is set to deliver an ever-increasing programme of one-design events dedicated to select models of an iconic yacht brand, including four days in Monaco at the end of March.

The Monaco Swan One Design, to be held from March 27-31 and organised in conjunction with the Monaco Yacht Club, is the first event of The Nations Trophy Mediterranean League 2018.

“It is a great honour for us to be part of the Nations Trophy Mediterranean League this year alongside prestigious regattas, and reinforces the Principality of Monaco as a mecca for yachting,” said Bernard d’Alessandri, General Secretary of the Monaco Yacht Club.

Open to ClubSwan 50s, 2018 European Boat of the Year in the Performance Cruiser category, Swan 45s and ClubSwan 42s, this four-day regatta will offer the prospect of tremendous one-design competition for owners and crew alike, Sail-World reports.

“With a number of the entrants from The Nations Trophy participating, including Swan 45 Porrón IX from the triumphant Spanish team, the Monaco Swan One Design will be a true early season test for all competitors,” explained Nautor’s Swan President, Leonardo Ferragamo, who will be skippering his ClubSwan 50 Cuordileone.

“We are really looking forward to renewing the rivalries of last year in the spectacular setting of Monte Carlo under the incomparable stewardship of the Yacht Club de Monaco.”

The Monaco Swan One Design regatta will comprise four days of inshore, windward-leeward racing. Entries have so far been drawn from Germany, Italy, Monaco, Russia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

“For this first edition, we are delighted to welcome owners sharing the same passion for sailing and high-level competition, and who enjoy meeting each other ashore as well as on the starting line,” Mr d’Alessandri commented.

“Supporting owners and giving them opportunities to satiate their passion is one of our Yacht Clubs’ main motivations. Personally, I can’t wait to see the spectacular ClubSwan 50 fleet in action. The latest class to come out of the yard, designed by Juan Kouyoumdjian, combines elegance and performance.”

Following on from the Monaco Swan One Design regatta, the Nations Trophy Mediterranean League comprises three more events: Sail Racing Palmavela, Real Club Nautico de Palma, May 2-5, Palma de Mallorca; Rolex Giraglia Inshore Races, Yacht Club Italiano, June 9-12, Saint-Tropez; and 37th Copa del Rey Mapfre, Real Club Nautico de Palma, July 29-August 4, Palma de Mallorca.

Finally, from September 9-16, the historic Rolex Swan Cup will witness an array of top-class competitions, including the ClubSwan 50 World Championship, the Swan 45 World Championship and the ClubSwan 42 European Championship.

Monaco participated in the first session of the World Food Programme (WFP) Board of Directors meeting from February 27 to March 1, which produced a summary report of four impact evaluations of WFP’s nutrition programmes in the Sahel.

Martine Garcia-Mascarenhas, Deputy Alternate Representative of Monaco to FAO and WFP, highlighted the Principality’s commitment in this programme.

She noted in particular that Monaco has doubled this year the amount of its voluntary contributions to WFP’s support to meet the Sustainable Development Objective No. 2 on food security and nutrition, a priority of the Monegasque Development Cooperation for the period 2018-2020 involving Burundi, Madagascar, Mauritania, and Niger.

At the end of the first session, the Third African School Feeding Day was celebrated, on the sidelines of which Ms Garcia-Mascarenhas met Virginia Villar Arribas, the new Director and Representative of the Office of the WFP in Burundi. The latter welcomed Monaco’s continued support for the Endogenous School Feeding Program in Muyinga Province.

MyMonacoStyle Weekend Report

Well guys, what a crazy weekend it’s been, especially for a Style Editor! Keeping tabs on Paris Fashion Week, the Oscars Red Carpet, all the action from the Monte-Carlo Comedy Film Festival and all the sparkles from an Indian Wedding Extravaganza, I’m starting to feel pulled in 50 different directions!

Don’t worry though, I’ve still managed to find time to keep my eye on the streets and clock these Monte Carlo style feats. From high fashion to high street these following ladies are examples of how one should properly go about “stepping out”.

tie.elElena Peretiatko

@tie.el From Kiev with love … and a good sense of personal style, Elena gave us a dose of rock’n’roll softened with a nature tone. I love the rivet detailing on her jeans which ties in with her Pinko Mini Love shoulder bag with silver hardware. A hunter green wrap adds depth with layering and keeps the look from being too aggressive, though the black sweater is studded. Even better she knew exactly the setting in which to best photograph this look, between urban vibes and nature, which is exactly what her look is saying to me. Yay for Elena P!

berglindsagabBerglind S

@berglindsagab Oh yassssss, honey. Ms Berglind is here to serve looks on these streets unapologetically. Okay, is anyone else getting Cher Horowitz from Clueless vibes from this look because I AM LIVING. Check that Burberry check skirt! That Chanel tweed jacket! The silver Chanel bag! The Chanel pearl earrings! Did I mention Chanel enough? Her Chanel brooch is a cute addition as well! Berglind, you look like the chicest teacher I ever saw with those glasses, where can I sign up for your class? 10/10 cause darling you’re a winner for wearing the clothes instead of them wearing you.

anninakraftAnnina Kraft

@annina_kraft While more is more and totally major, sometimes less is less of a mess. This German entrepreneur is serving up simple glamazon. First, gotta love a good shirtdress. Second, gotta love a good black leather boot. Third, top it off with an out of the ordinary outwear and you have a perfect combination for those days mild days. I love the futuristic feel of this fur and leather gilet coat with zipper on the side and XL zippers on the front. Not too fussy and just the right amount of edgy. This is not your grandmother’s fur coat. Welcome to the future. A top knot and aviator sunglasses are a perfect nonchalant touch. Annina you get a 10/10 for this bad ass coat!

ladiesnbasterdsTiffany

@ladiesnbasterds First off Tiffany, love this personal branding, “LadiesnBasterds”, sounds like a fun Monaco divorcees lunch club! What I like most about this look is that it’s accessible and on trend. Easy to pull off with what you probably already own in your closet. Fray bottom denim is still going strong, perfect with ankle boots. For that wanderlust-instagirl-world traveller look add a fedora hat. A dropped back sweater is perfect to showcase a long necklace draped backwards. To lux it up add in a designer handbag like this classic Chanel Matelasse 30 and you are ready to take on the day … oh, and it really helps to have really pretty hair!

linabirgittasigLina Birgitta

@linabirgittasig Still going with the mood of how to elevate high street to high FASH-ON, influencer and designer Lina Birgitta rocks out in a Stradivarius leather motorcycle jacket and still this Fall/Winter seasons must-have accessory, the baker boy hat – this version from Zara in glen check pattern. As you’ve probably already figured out by now, one can never go wrong with Chanel … usually. Lina accessorises with a small understated black Chanel handbag. Casual and cool she’s the girl everybody wants to be and CAN BE without breaking the bank.
