"Happy holidays!"

Princess Charlene has shared a picture of her adorable twins soaking up the sun on their extended summer holiday on the island of Corsica.
The Princess posted the picture on Friday afternoon of five-year-olds Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques on the beach, each sporting responsible arm-length swimming costumes – a Wonder Woman insignia adorning Princess Gabriella’s while Prince Jacques opted for a matching shark t-shirt-short combo.
“Happy holidays,” their mother captioned the family snap.
While family trips to Corsica are a regular occurrence for the Princely family, this particular extended trip is providing the former Olympic swimmer with an opportunity to train for her epic marathon called ‘The Crossing’, which is set to take place on 12th and 13th September.

In a new interview with French magazine Point de Vue, the Princess has revealed that the month-long vacation is also a learning experience for her entire family.

“Here, in Corsica, the children feel great freedom. They’ve the opportunity to live a unique experience, in contact with the elements, the flowers, animals… The entire cycle of nature is offered to us here, literally on our doorstep,” she said.

“When I was a child, the daily life and pace of life was very different,” she added.

“Jacques and Gabriella have so many opportunities available to them. They’ve traveled the world since they were born, they have already been in contact with many cultures, everything around them has always been a source of learning and fulfillment. Each day spent at their side is exciting,” shared the Princess.

The 42-year-old athlete also said that Prince Albert will be cheering her along in September. “I’ve been training for several weeks in Calvi, at the rate of several hours per day. Like me, my husband is a former Olympic athlete (and though) he will not take part in the relay, he will be there, aboard a boat, to support me,” she said.

New rules for outdoor masks in Nice

Neighbouring city Nice is one of a handful of regions across France to mandate the wearing of masks in certain outdoor public areas, as the country fights to reverse a rise in coronavirus cases which has now reached 1,000 a day.
On Friday 31st July, France gave local governments the power to order the wearing of face masks in outdoor public spaces. Nice has imposed such a mandate, with Mayor Christian Estrosi declaring that, as of 10am  Monday 1st August, the wearing of a mask is obligatory in certain areas throughout the city. The requirement will run until 1am and those who fail to comply face a fine of 35€.
France has reported 7,000 new cases in the past week after bringing the virus nearly under control with a strict two-month nationwide lockdown. Officials hope local measures can prevent a second coronavirus wave without disruptive nationwide action. To date, 30,265 virus-related deaths have been recorded since the pandemic began.
Other areas in France to impose a mask mandate in outdoor public spaces include Lille, 69 towns in the Mayenne region of western France and the coastal city of Biarritz.
It follows a national order making masks mandatory in closed public spaces from 20th July.
The outdoor areas in Nice where masks are now mandatory are:
West: Boulevard Gambetta.
North: Thiers train station and Avenue Thiers.
East: All of Avenue Jean Médecin, Place Massena, Avenue Félix Faure, Coulée Verte, Avenue Saint-Jean-Baptiste, Rue du Docteur Ciaudo, Place Garibaldi Square, Rue Cassini, Place Ile de Beauté, Port.
South: Quai Rauba Capeu, Quai des Etats-Unis.
Promenade des Anglais: from rue Max Gallo to the intersection of Promenade des Anglais and Boulevard Gambetta, as well as the southern roadway portion of the Promenade des Anglais located between Boulevard Gambetta and Boulevard Magnan.
New regulations in Monaco mean that masks are now mandatory for people standing in queues and at major venues such as the Stade Louis II.
Editor’s note: During a walk around on Monday, it was clear that the majority of people are still not wearing masks, despite the recent mandate. It may be partly due to the fact that there is no communication that masks are mandatory in these outdoor spaces.

New 'Immersion' experience in Monaco

The Oceanographic Museum is giving visitors the opportunity to “dive” Australia’s famous Great Barrier Reef and discover one of the most complex natural ecosystems in the world.
The new exhibit, called Immersion, opened to the public on 18th July and shows, in a 30-minute real time projection, the delights of one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Great Barrier Reef.
Clown fish, sea turtles, whales and manta rays glide past on the screen, giving visitors the opportunity to feel as if they are right there with the sea creatures who make this famous coral reef their home.
Coral reefs adorn only a small part of the ocean floor but are home to nearly a third of all marine biodiversity. They are incredibly resilient, but The Great Barrier Reef is faced with possible extinction due to pollution and global warming events which have triggered three “bleaching” incidents in the past five years.
The curators of the exhibition decided against showing these bleaching events in their digitally constructed world, opting instead to show the reef at its best as a catalyst to remind people that this place of marvel needs our help to keep its beauty intact. The reef’s best attributes are shown off by way of a virtual dive to show as much of the area as possible.

Great Barrier Reef

“Diving” to a depth of 10 metres, immersion uses 40 projectors to create a four-sided marine installation that covers three walls and the floor. 3D representations of the reef’s most known species are displayed as they would be in real life. Images of white-tip reef sharks mingle with giant clams and the Maori wrasse looking and moving as close to the real thing as imaginable.
The video is accompanied by a soundtrack of whale song and reef sounds recorded by Frédéric Bertucci, a French bioacoustician, whose underwater audio elements were married to an original score by composer Pierre Caillot.

Astounding finish by Hamilton as Leclerc comes in third

Lewis Hamilton has won his seventh victory at Silverstone despite having to limp over the finish line on three wheels. Meanwhile, Leclerc is getting his mojo back and finished a respectable third.
Lewis Hamilton took another first place win at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Sunday despite having blown his left front tyre with half a lap to go. The finish, perhaps the most dramatic of his career, gives the World Champ his seventh victory on this track and a story to tell for years to come.
“That last lap almost had me. We still got this,” said Hamilton after the win on social media. “I really wish I could have celebrated with all of you. I can’t express how grateful I am to all the fans, and to my incredible team. We’ve worked really hard for this. The British Grand Prix means so much to me and to think this is the seventh home win is just insane. Really gutted for Valterri, he drove a great race. We will fight again next week. Thanks for the positive energy everyone, we did this together.”
The event was also marked by a well-organised anti-racism presentation on the grid. Pilots filmed individual anti-racism statements in advance of the day that were televised before the national anthem was played. They also all wore the “End Racism” t-shirts many had sported in previous races. Not all took to one knee, but the sentiment remained clear.
Monegasque Charles Leclerc took bronze on the day, making his second podium finish of the year after a seriously bad start to the season for him and his Ferrari teammates. Starting in fourth place, he stayed in this position until the 50th lap when Valtteri Bottas’s tyre gave way in exactly the same way as Hamilton’s, forcing the Finnish driver to the pit and allowing Leclerc to take third just after Max Verstappen.
Leclerc took to Facebook to share his delight at his podium finish, saying exuberantly, “P3 baby! Without luck, we wouldn’t have been on the podium, but very happy with how we managed the weekend considering the tough times we are going through at the moment. We keep pushing.”

The Red and Whites draw in Frankfurt

After a week of serious training in Poland, AS Monaco headed to Frankfurt to play their third friendly pre-season match, ending in a 1-1 draw.

Niko Kovac’s boys flew from the Polish training centre to Germany to see what they were made of against Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend.

The Germans took no time taking control of the ball and the first tries on goal were all theirs, though goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte had no trouble fending off their attempts. Just before the hour mark, at 59 minutes, Lecomte was unable to hold them back and Gonçalo Paciencia’s left-footed shot found its mark putting Frankfurt ahead 0-1.

At the hour mark, Coach Kovac cleared the field of all 11 players, bringing on a whole new set that included Anthony Musaba and Willem Geubbels. Musaba converted in the 85th minute tying up the score, where it stayed until the end of the game. The goal prompted Musaba to take to social media and exclaim, “I’m proud to have scored my first goal for AS Monaco.”

Coach Kovac was happy overall with the team and where they are heading, saying: “The encounter with Eintracht was positive. I think we had the right frame of mind. Giving the younger kids some playing time against a team which is on a European level is a positive thing. I am very satisfied with the attitude of the team and the state of mind shown by my players, both from the younger and more experienced players.”

The Red and Whites are returning to La Turbie now where they will prepare for their next friendly against AZ Alkmaar on 15th August.
