Monaco to welcome Yannick Alleno this May

The highly anticipated arrival of Chef Yannick Alleno, holder of nine Michelin stars, has been set for 19th May when he officially swings open the doors of Monaco’s newest restaurant in the heart of the Hermitage Hotel.
With close to a dozen Michelin stars under his chef’s hat, Yannick Alleno is a veritable Rockstar of the gastronomy world, and his presence at the Hermitage Hotel is a major coup for the Principality.
The restaurant is called ‘Yannick Alléno at the Hermitage Hotel’ and it is billed by SBM as a lively, vibrant restaurant with a home away from home vibe. In the chef’s own words, it is “fine dining without the formality” and “serious food that doesn’t take itself too seriously”.
The restaurant is located in the former Vistamar premises and boasts the same jaw-dropping terrace and views over Monaco and the Mediterranean.
But the real magic comes in Spring 2022, when ‘Yannick Alléno at the Hermitage Hotel’ evolves into the Pavyllon, complete with a brand-new interior by Alléno’s longstanding associate Chahan Minassian to reflect the chef’s iconic trademark style.
Without revealing too much ahead of the opening, the website points to a “hearty yet beautifully balanced menu, showing exquisite attention to detail. It is inspired by the colours and flavours of the South of France: aubergine caviar, barbecued European lobster, and candied rhubarb are guaranteed to please.”
Yannick Alléno is a member of the exclusive circle of the greatest chefs in the world, holding two restaurants with three Michelin stars – Alléno Paris in the Pavillon Ledoyen and Le 1947 at Cheval Blanc in Courcheval, as well as achieving numerous other stars throughout his career.
Unashamedly, he has a very visionary approach to the culinary arts, blending knowledge and excellence with audacity, and is commonly known as the ‘Leader of Modern Cuisine’. He experiments endlessly in order to find the purest, most quintessential flavours and constantly pushes the boundaries with his curiosity and talent.
Monaco Life is thrilled to be invited to the exclusive pre-opening of ‘Yannick Alléno at the Hermitage Hotel’ on 18th May, so stay tuned for our sneak peak into Monaco’s exciting new gastronomic hotspot.

“We were the standout”

Monegasque Charles Leclerc took fourth place at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona over the weekend, earning him 12 points and keeping him near the top of the heap in the precursor to his homecoming race in Monaco on 23rd May.
Charles Leclerc is sitting pretty in fifth place for the season so far after a fantastic fourth place finish at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday. He sits only one point behind McLaren’s Lando Norris and only seven off third-place Valtteri Bottas in the F1 2021 standings.
“Today was an amazing race for us. We couldn’t have done anything better. I’m very happy with the job of the team,” Leclerc told Sky Sports after the race.
“The feeling with the car was amazing and in the early part of the race with the soft (tyres), everything felt very good, we didn’t have too much degradation, and on the medium, it was all about trying to manage.”
Leclerc came in behind race winner Lewis Hamilton, second place Max Verstappen and Bottas in third, and was a full nine seconds ahead of fifth place Red Bull pilot Sergio Perez.

“We were incredibly competitive compared to our main competitors,” said Leclerc. “I think we were the standout for the race today so it was good, the feeling of the car was amazing.”
Team Ferrari is on an upswing after enduring a miserable last season, their worst in 40 years, and Leclerc’s continuing improvements are part of the reason why. Teammate Carlos Sainz is pulling his weight as well, finishing seventh in Spain and is eighth overall in standings.
This put Team Ferrari just five points behind third place McLaren, with Mercedes and Red Bull in the number one and two spots respectively.
Vast changes to the cars have also been integral in Ferrari’s return.
“We have more power, we have more downforce and grip,” Leclerc explained. “Especially in the race it seems to help a lot because last year the balance during the race was very difficult, whenever you put high-fuel you feel the weaknesses of the car a lot more. Last year we were struggling with that. This year it just feels a lot better.”
Leclerc will come home for more Grand Prix action on 23rd May to race on the legendary track of the Monaco Grand Prix.

What’s up with AS Monaco?

AS Monaco are back in the number three spot in Ligue 1 standings after their 1-0 win over Reims Sunday. But the club has everyone guessing over their bizarre #DigitalRedOut campaign.

After the controversial match against Lyon last weekend, the Red and Whites seemed determined to stay focused on the future and took on a resolute Reims team, beating them in a close match, with young Belgian Eliot Matazo scoring the only goal of the game.
It puts AS Monaco back in the number three spot, staying one point ahead of Lyon despite their 4 to 1 victory over Lorient, two off Paris Saint-Germain and five off top ranked Lille.
Monaco had control much of the game but were simply unable to convert opportunities to points. This was also due also in part to Reims playing really solid football.
“We controlled the game, we created three big chances so we should have killed the game,” said Coach Niko Kovac post-game. “When you don’t, it creates tension. We were a little nervous at the end because you can always concede a goal from a set piece. It’s a great victory for us, which is good for the future. What we have to remember today is the victory and the three points, not the game.”
This latest win gives Monaco 10 wins of their last 11 games on the road.
The team needed this victory, not only to shake off the bad taste left after the ugly clash with Lyon last week, but also to give them some positivity for next match, where they go up against Rumilly Vallieres in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France.
In other ASM news, the team has posted new background on all their social media and website, without any word as to what it actually means. The image features light red and dark red colours separated by a diagonal line, while the website has a retro Atari tennis game on the landing page.
The most common speculation among fans is that the team is about to change their logo. There are also suggestions it may also have something to do with the heavy sanctions the club received after their brawl with Lyon.
In any case, it’s wait and see until the team casts aside the mystery.

Last-lap pass wins Monaco E-Prix for da Costa

Defending champion Antonio Felix da Costa won a dramatic Monaco E-Prix on Saturday after taking the lead in the final lap.
The Portuguese started on pole for the 4th Monaco E-Prix, but he had to resist a serious contender in Robin Frijns (Virgin), who led the race two or three times and eventually finished in 2nd position, thanks to a lack of power on Mitch Evans’s Jaguar in the last lap.
The Kiwi finished the race with 0% power in his batteries, but he still managed to climb on to the podium with da Costa and Frijns, where all three drivers were congratulated by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and FIA president Jean Todt, fully equipped with masks and white gloves.

It is the 2nd win for DS Techeetah this season, after Jean-Eric Vergne’s masterful display in Race 1 in Rome. ‘JEV’, 2019 Monaco winner and double Formula E FIA champion, managed to finish 4th, the same place as on the grid, after an eventful race which saw him miss the first pass at Casino for catching the Attack Mode.
The best move of the day was undoubtedly an audacious overtaking manœuvre by Evans on da Costa at the end of the Beau Rivage uphill portion, in a very spectacular location, just before the Casino curve.
It is the 4th time, out of four Formula E races in Monaco, that the poleman has won in the end, but this time the scenario was perfectly written and suspense was maintained until the chequered flag. It was only interrupted for a few minutes when the one and only safety car period allowed all drivers to cool down, less than 15 minutes before the end, following the Mini Electric.
The two leaders of the World Championship, Nyck de Vries and Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes), ended a terrible Saturday in 20th and 22nd positions respectively. But they remain at the top of the FE standings, ahead of Frijns, the Virgin driver, Bird and Evans, the Jaguar drivers.

New psychiatric centre on track for 2022 completion

Health authorities have taken stock of the progress of a new psychiatry day centre for children and adolescents in Beausoleil. The much-needed establishment is due for completion by next September.
Young residents or students of the Principality with mental health problems are currently cared for at the Plati Centre and day hospital-type structures in France when places become available.
Due to a saturation of services in the Department of the Alpes-Maritimes, Monaco’s Department of Social Affairs and Health, the Lenval Foundation and the PACA Regional Health Agency decided to join forces to create a common structure of 35 places, including 17 for Monaco, in the municipality of Beausoleil.
Work began in June 2020 and is due to completed in September 2022.
“Mental health is one of the priority areas of the Prince’s Government, which attaches the utmost importance to acquiring the necessary means to implement its health policy, particularly in favour of children,” said Health Minister Didier Gamerdinger. “The implementation of this project attests to the close links between the Principality of Monaco and France.”
Didier Gamerdinger was joined at the site of the future psychiatric centre by Departmental Delegate of the Agency Régionale de Santé PACA Romain Alexandre, Director General of the Lenval Foundation Arnaud Pouillart, Director General of the Department of Social Affairs and Health Ludmilla Raconnat Le Goff, and Alain Laurent, Deputy Director of Public Works.
