New pairings announced for Monaco’s ‘Festival of Stars’

SBM’s Festival des Etoilés, a unique event pairing local and international Michelin-starred chefs, will continue well into autumn with new collaborations between September and November.
The new round of pairings kick off on 9th September at the Monte-Carlo Beach Hotel with a decidedly feminine pairing at Elsa Restaurant. Chef Manon Fleury welcomes L’Argine a Vencò’s award winning Italian chef Antonia Klugmann.
This is followed up by the exquisite pairing of the legendary Alain Ducasse with three-starred chef Michel Guerard from les Prés d’Eugénie, where they will offer both a lunch and a dinner at Louis XV-Alain Ducasse at the Hôtel de Paris.
The final duo puts Marcel Ravin of Blue Bay together with Argentinian chef, and former Ducasse disciple, Mauro Colagreco, of the three-starred worlds-best restaurant 2019 – Mirazur on 5th November as a pre-holiday treat.
Two collaborations have already taken place, during which Franck Cerutti and Marcel Ravin respectively welcomed Riccardo Camanini of Lido 84 and Michel Sarran of the Restaurant Michel Sarran in their kitchens to prepare meals to the delight of foodie guests in the Principality.
The grand finale of the Festival is one for the history books, as all of SBM’s Michelin-starred chefs gather together for one night only in the Salle Médecin of the Casino for a gala evening on 27th November.
On this occasion, Manon Fleury, Marcel Ravin, Franck Cerutti, Dominique Lory and Yannick Alléno will together create a dinner comprising of their signature dishes. The six-course menu will be a journey through the world of the Société des Bains de Mer, where guests will be able to watch the dishes being made directly in the room thanks to a “live pass”.
Singer Nicole Magolie will entertain the crowd of roughly one hundred guests with soul and jazz tunes accompanied by a quartet.
The Festival des Etoilés, which has been going on since May, is potentially going to be a yearly offering by SBM.

Luxe Pack Monaco goes greener

Luxe Pack, the “go-to” event for premium packaging for the past 30 years, is returning in September with a new green twist, supported by the Prince’s Foundation.

Luxury packaging managers from around the world are uniting in the Principality for Luxe Pack Monaco. The three-day conference, which was cancelled last year due to Covid, will be offering creative innovations, sustainable solutions, new designs and digital advances for companies looking for alternative packaging for their products.

Whether it is for jewellery, perfumes, cosmetics, fashion, food, drink or anything in between, the 490 exhibitors at Luxe Pack have a vast array of choice for producer looking to have a cutting-edge look and the most-up-date packaging.

The show has also attracted, in addition to hundreds of exhibitors, more than 70 speakers and expects to receive over 9,000 visitors from 98 countries.

The packaging options are the main attraction, but the event will also provide company representatives with conferences and workshops designed to keep them up on market trends and inspired by successful case studies.

The top speaker at this year’s show is Jacques Playe, the Global Head of Packaging and Product Development at global beauty giant L’Oréal. His speech, ‘Packaging and Plastics: what future in the luxury sector?’ will be geared toward understanding and anticipating the future use of plastics in a world that is increasingly going green.

Luxe Pack’s on-going commitment to environmentally friendly alternatives in packaging, as well as to meet consumer demand in this area, led them to organise the Luxe Pack in green Awards, as part of the convention. Five jurists, including L’Oréal’s Playe and the Vice President of the Prince Albert II Foundation, Olivier Wenden, will select manufacturers who highlight eco-designed solutions and responsible approaches.

Additionally, many of the workshops will focus on eco-friendly solutions, with a big emphasis on sustainable and recycled packaging, lessening carbon footprints and the use of mono-material options.

Luxe Pack Monaco runs from 27th to 29th September at the Grimaldi Forum. The event is for professionals only, and free entry will be given to those who present their electronic badge or programme. All health and safety measures will be followed throughout the show to ensure the well-being of all involved.

“Life is Beautiful” with artist Houda Bakkali

Monaco’s Le Pinocchio restaurant will be featuring private viewings of the works of artist Houda Bakkali this month, inviting guests to experiment with augmented reality as they admire her special brand of visual art.
Barcelona-based Houda Bakkali wants us all to look at the world the way she does: in a positive light. After a year and a half of bad news, the artist is asking people to remember, through her latest exhibition at Le Pinocchio restaurant, that “Life is Beautiful” and to be grateful despite all the difficulties life presents.
“With the new graphic series ‘Life is Beautiful’, the international visual artist Houda Bakkali launches a universal message of optimism and hope, more necessary than ever in these strange dark times that humankind is experiencing due to the global pandemic and the unpredictability of its evolution,” Juliet Art Magazine said of her exhibition. “While the whole world is sick, disoriented and frightened by the future, the Spanish artist concentrates on the digital canvas, all the most vibrant and incredible colours that nature and pixels are able to offer to create a real explosion of joy of against which it is impossible to remain neutral.”
It would, indeed, be hard to stay neutral upon seeing the works on offer by the vibrant Bakkali, which will be on display from 9th to 22nd August. Loaded with imagery depicting strong females and representing iconic feminine themes such as flowers, curves and colour, her work is much like the artist herself.

Le Pinocchio has hosted the artist in the past. She had a show in the midst of the pandemic back in October of 2020 where she displayed her Africa series as well as debuting a new piece at the time called Crazy Heart.
“At this very particular time that we live because of the pandemic, we must find new ways to continue sharing our creativity with the public,” said Bakkali at the time. “My art is essentially digital, so this virtual presentation is a perfect option to bring the public closer to my creative process. In Monaco, I feel at home. It is a country that I love and being able to show my work in such an emblematic place as Le Pinocchio is a great honour. I am very grateful and happy for this opportunity.”
Bakkali is an international visual artist and has exhibited around the globe, including in Paris, Madrid, Cannes, San Remo, New York, Barcelona, Córdoba, Biarritz and Lorc, as well as in the Principality.

All the highlights from the Red Cross Summer Concert

It was an historic moment as Jamie Cullum took to the stage in the Place du Casino for the Red Cross Summer Concert on Friday night, watched on by the Princely family.
After many years at the Sporting Monte-Carlo, the event this year took on a new name and a new location. Under the starry summer sky in the Place du Casino, guests gathered for what was the first major concert in Monaco since the pandemic began. It was also the first time the redesigned Casino Square has been transformed into an open-air entertainment venue since it was unveiled in 2020.
Prince Albert II of Monaco was joined for the occasion by his sister Caroline, Princess of Hanover, Pierre Casiraghi, Andrea Casiraghi, Charlotte Casiraghi-Rassam and Gareth Wittstock.
Among the guests was legendary singer Dame Shirley Bassey, the 84-year-old looking effortlessly chic in a black trouser suit.
Art works by acclaimed artists Laurence Jenkell and Nick Danzinger were offered in support of the charity.

The Red Cross was established in 1948 by Prince Louis II, and the gala has been an opportunity to showcase its ongoing daily action among the most vulnerable over the past 73 years.
The missions of the Monaco Red Cross are to save lives and prepare the general population for disasters, to support all people in need without discrimination and to lead awareness-raising and preventive actions in the humanitarian sector. It acts both nationally and internationally.
It is supported and guided by HSH Prince Albert II.

ArtPeople launch

As part of Monaco Art week, Monaco start-up ArtPeople has launched a digital platform for connecting collectors and buyers in a whole new way.

The ArtPeople digital platform is giving art lovers an online alternative to viewing and buying pieces, highlighting the extraordinary growth of this once-niche market of the art sales world.

Founder Jeremy Biermann, architect and art enthusiast, started ArtPeople after designing numerous exhibition stands for galleries at international fairs such as Design Miami/Basel, Masterpiece London, and PAD London, collaborating with his wife Deborah who worked for a prestigious auction house and ran a gallery in Monaco.

Jeremy saw a gap in the art world that was expounded by the restrictions the pandemic imposed on face-to-face meetings and travel, and created ArtPeople to fill in that blank spot.

“In the digital age, our professional experience has allowed us to understand the most important element in this market: trust, in particular between collectors, dealers, specialists and service providers,” says Jeremy Biermann. “Our mission was to make the art world prosper in a new digital reality where Internet users do not limit themselves to consulting information but actively contribute to its creation.”

Member collectors have access to a directory of services in addition to the pieces themselves that include finding framers, insurers, experts and transport companies, whilst art world professionals now have the ability to reach out to collectors and service providers at an unprecedented level to increase visibility and expand their markets.

Based on the LinkedIn model, users of the platform can also share their experiences and opinions, complete with rating systems, and can create and schedule online or real-time events, make appointments, and create their own profile.
