The Monte-Carlo Société des Bains Mer is looking to inject a “bit of magic” into Monaco this Christmas with the launch of their latest endeavour, Monte-Carlo Winter Fantasy.
The festive season is once again upon us and with it comes memories of years past, hopes for the future and, of course, the anticipation of what the season has in store.
The Société des Bains Mer (SBM), in this vein, is putting on a series of celebratory events intended to waken the Christmas spirit in even the most Scrooge-like of individuals, bringing magic and fun to the season with the Monte-Carlo Winter Fantasy.
The events, which run from early December to the middle of January, kick off on 2nd December at 5pm in Casino Square and on the Monte-Carlo shopping promenade with the lighting of an 18-metre-high Christmas tree adorned with 4,000 pearly white and gold baubles, as well as three “entertainment igloos” called the Giant Stars. Festive music will be playing and shops will be open until 9pm to get everyone in holiday mood.
The Giant Star igloos will be positioned around the tree and offer Christmas-themed events, based on history and poetry, for the whole family. The star dedicated to poetry invites visitors to hand in or write a poem for Father Christmas with the chance of winning a night in the Hermitage Hotel.
Casino Square will also be the location for a light projection show on the façade of the Casino from 26th to 31st December to add more sparkle to the long winter nights.
From 2nd December to 9th January, the Patio courtyard at the Hôtel de Paris will be covered in twinkling lights and filled with surprises. Exclusive offerings such as a new hot chocolate creation from Le Chocolat Alain Ducasse will be available, and guests can try their hands at creative or culinary workshops where they whip up Christmas treats, make their own decorations or arrange a gorgeous centrepiece-worthy flower display. For a complete list of all events, on the Patio, visit the website at https://www.montecarlosbm.com/fr/agenda/christmas-garden-in-the-patio
The Hermitage Hotel will feature a Christmas Teatime from 21st to 24th December in the Salle Belle Epoque. Children and parents can meet Santa from 3pm to 6pm on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd, and at 5:30pm on the 24th, to tell him all their secret wishes. They can then take part in creative workshops for young chefs, with festive pastries and sweets prepared by pastry chef Nicolas Baygourry. 'Confinement, deconfinement' by MonacoVisions
On Wednesday, a unique short film will be showcased at the Théâtre des Variétés, documenting local photographer’s interpretation of Monaco’s intense period during the Covid pandemic.
“Poetic, moving, and disconcerting clips” make up this fascinating film created by MonacoVisions’, a Monegasque association that brings together photographers and filmmakers aged from 10 to 92 years, all united in their passion for pictures.
Titled ‘Confinement, deconfinement’, the short film screening will take place on Wednesday 20th October at 6.30pm.
From March 2020 to the present, the film explores the visions of lockdown, the Principality’s re-opening, and the subsequent return to lockdown.
It features footage of an empty, silent Monaco, artistic clips that show this most unusual time in a new light. It also has interviews with young people talking about the health crisis that directly impacted their lives, as well as original music.
The best British boarding schools presented at the YCM
The British Boarding Schools Show is coming to town for its second edition on 29th September, putting parents in front of the very best of British private education.
Steeped in tradition, revered for excellent pastoral and educational practices and renowned for giving alumni a certain leg up, British boarding schools are highly sought after by parents and students the world over. The problem is that not everyone has time to make a grand tour around the UK to visit these exclusive institutions in order to choose the best option for their child.
Enter the British Boarding School Show (BBSS). Coming to the Monaco Yacht Club from 10am to 5pm on 29th September, the event gives parents the opportunity to connect face-to-face with some of Britain’s top boarding school representatives in one place to learn about entry requirements, scholarships, bursaries or to answer any other questions parents may have.
The show offers a chance not only to meet with the Heads of schools and Admissions Directors, but will also feature meet ups with education, property and relocation specialists to help with planning to make the transition as smooth as possible.
Educational consultants, including William Petty, Director at Bonas MacFarlane, one of London’s leading educational consultancy firms, will be on hand to answer any questions and offer advice on how to narrow down the many choices available.
Interest in British boarding schools grows steadily each year, and much of this comes from outside the UK. In a system that currently educates 69,979 pupils, a full 41% currently come from abroad.
The BBSS has carefully curated the Monaco event to ensure “parents are put in front of the very best of British private education.” These schools consistently produce high-achieving, confident, well-informed young people, who often go on to leading universities in the US and UK, as well as farther afield. Alumni from these schools go on to become academics, business leaders, politicians, athletes and newsmakers.
Family tickets are free. Premium tickets are £50. This includes a 20-minute consultation with a Bonas Macfarlane consultant to discuss school options, transition and strategies to optimise the move. For more info, visit https://schoolsshow.co.uk/event/monaco
New pairings announced for Monaco’s ‘Festival of Stars’
SBM’s Festival des Etoilés, a unique event pairing local and international Michelin-starred chefs, will continue well into autumn with new collaborations between September and November.
The new round of pairings kick off on 9th September at the Monte-Carlo Beach Hotel with a decidedly feminine pairing at Elsa Restaurant. Chef Manon Fleury welcomes L’Argine a Vencò’s award winning Italian chef Antonia Klugmann.
This is followed up by the exquisite pairing of the legendary Alain Ducasse with three-starred chef Michel Guerard from les Prés d’Eugénie, where they will offer both a lunch and a dinner at Louis XV-Alain Ducasse at the Hôtel de Paris.
The final duo puts Marcel Ravin of Blue Bay together with Argentinian chef, and former Ducasse disciple, Mauro Colagreco, of the three-starred worlds-best restaurant 2019 – Mirazur on 5th November as a pre-holiday treat.
Two collaborations have already taken place, during which Franck Cerutti and Marcel Ravin respectively welcomed Riccardo Camanini of Lido 84 and Michel Sarran of the Restaurant Michel Sarran in their kitchens to prepare meals to the delight of foodie guests in the Principality.
The grand finale of the Festival is one for the history books, as all of SBM’s Michelin-starred chefs gather together for one night only in the Salle Médecin of the Casino for a gala evening on 27th November.
On this occasion, Manon Fleury, Marcel Ravin, Franck Cerutti, Dominique Lory and Yannick Alléno will together create a dinner comprising of their signature dishes. The six-course menu will be a journey through the world of the Société des Bains de Mer, where guests will be able to watch the dishes being made directly in the room thanks to a “live pass”.
Singer Nicole Magolie will entertain the crowd of roughly one hundred guests with soul and jazz tunes accompanied by a quartet.
The Festival des Etoilés, which has been going on since May, is potentially going to be a yearly offering by SBM.
