Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation unveils the RE.GENERATION Future Leaders Class of 2024

RE.GENERATION Future Leaders

The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has introduced the truly exceptional cohort of international young people who have been chosen for this year’s RE.GENERATION Future Leaders programme. These 13 “inspiring young minds” will now spend 10 days in the Principality as they attend an intensive training course on everything from communication and leadership skills to the art of networking.

From a French sailor and engineer to a Malawian advocate for solar solutions and from an environmentally-aware Italian athlete to a grassroots activist dreaming of a clean energy transition in rural India, the 2024 intake of “inspiring young minds” who make up this year’s RE.GENERATION Future Leaders is incredibly diverse.

The stories of these 13 young people are different in almost every way, yet they are all bound by a shared passion for environmental protection. As put by representatives for the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, “They are poised to become the architects of a sustainable future.”

And helping these young people achieve their goals is the main objective of the Foundation’s RE.GENERATION Future Leaders programme, which was launched for the first time in 2023.

Changemakers

Some hope to use their business skills to found new companies and launch new products that will have a positive impact, such as John Boghosian, a Lebanese healthcare entrepreneur and the COO and co-founder of Pangea Bio, a company dedicated to accelerating modern drug discovery with nature-inspired science. Others, like Sheherazade of Indonesia, Denise Nicolau of Mozambique and Ali Alabyadh of Saudi Arabia seek to set new targets for wildlife protections in their home countries.

Brazil’s Ezequiel Vedana, the founder and CEO of Piipee, is hoping that innovation will provide the answer to regional sanitation issues and challenges, while Prabakaran Arun from India, an architect and city planner by trade, wants to advance environmental sustainability practices and climate resilience within urban areas.

The full list of people chosen for the Class of 2024 can be found here.

The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation describes each of these individuals as a “changemaker”, a person with a will to make a difference, adding that the interactions between the 13 will hopefully give rise to “new projects to protect the environment”.

Over the coming months, the cohort will be given access to a range of training courses and programmes, such as the ongoing 10-day immersion campus in Monaco, which began on 10th June.

They will be taught communication and leadership skills, receive masterclasses from experts in their respective fields, learn the art of networking and pitching, and build on their personal connections with their fellow students.

“At the end of the campus, the Foundation will offer these young talents access to its network in order to give them maximum visibility by providing them with a wide range of opportunities: speaking at international events, taking part in media programmes or interviews, [producing] dedicated articles on the Foundation’s communication channels,” say representatives for the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. “This tailor-made communications and public relations support is one of the major differentiating features of the RE.GENERATION initiative.”

API Days: Monaco’s UNESCO Gardens to host educational bee-friendly event

api days

This coming weekend, the Principality will be honouring the vitally important role bees play in the world with two days of special events and workshops in the UNESCO Gardens in Fontvieille.

On Friday 14th and Saturday 15th June, the UNESCO Gardens on the Terrasses de Fontvieille will be abuzz with activity as the Monaco Urban Planning Department hosts its annual API Days event.

Bees are the world’s the primary pollinating insects and their health is essential for ours. Yet their very survival as a species is being threatened and populations are in decline across the globe due to environmental degradation, chemical pesticides and disease.

Raising awareness on these issues is the main focus of Monaco’s API Days event, which began in 2011 and takes its inspiration from a conservation programme initiated by the National Union of French Apiculture (UNAF).

Visitors to this weekend’s API Days will be able to learn about the local efforts being made in Monaco to better support and protect native species of bees. These include the purpose-built hives that have been erected in locations throughout the Principality, including on the roof of the Museum of Stamps and Coins in Fontvieille, with a whole section of the event programme being dedicated to hive building and maintenance this year.

There will also be a range of family-friendly activities to enjoy, from games to candle-making courses and honey extraction workshops, as well as exhibitions and stalls.

Entry is entirely free and all are welcome. API Days will be held between 9am and 4pm on both days.

AS Monaco Basket become Champions of France for second year in a row

The Roca Team has done it again! For the second consecutive Betclic Elite season, Monaco’s premier men’s basketball team has won the league and claimed the Champions of France title.

AS Monaco Basket has retained the glory the team achieved in 2023 by beating Paris Basketball in a game that the Rouges et Blancs made look like a cakewalk.

It was almost as if Paris forgot to turn up for Game 4 of the Finals series, which was played out in the Adidas Arena on Wednesday 12th June, and Monaco’s Roca Team took control from the very start, leading 19 points to nil, all but leaving their rivals in the dust.

Throughout the final, the Monegasque side went from strength-to-strength, dominating in every quarter with relentless energy and determination.

The players deserved every one of the 115 points scored versus Paris’s far weaker 76. Captain Mike James put in an incredible performance, racking up 27 points alone and earning himself a second Most Valuable Player award of the season.

“We had to increase the intensity against a very good team who had a great season,” said James after the game. “We had to respond to what they had imposed on [us in] Game 2 and we did it very well. As a leader, I had to set an example and be aggressive to succeed in retaining this title of Champion of France. We experienced a real disappointment with the EuroLeague, we had to refocus. Going back-to-back in the French Championship is no small thing.”

But James wasn’t the only player to shine. Élie Okobo scored a huge 23 points on the night, followed by Mouhammadou Jaiteh, who added 14 to the final tally.

Coach Sasa Obradovich has expressed pride in his team, saying, “I think we had a great season. A very good season contrary to what anyone can say. If we had reached the EuroLeague Final Four, how would you have judged the season? It was not an easy year. I am proud to have led this group, which was able to adapt to different situations.”

The Roca Team will now enjoy a well-deserved summer break before returning to the court in September as France’s reigning champs.
