Eileen Gray’s E-1027 villa the backdrop of new Louis Vuitton campaign

American actress and singer Zendaya has become the new face of Louis Vuitton, with her first shoot held at Eileen Gray’s famous architectural gem, E-1027, in Roquebrune Cap Martin.

Rumours that Zendaya was about to become Louis Vuitton’s newest brand ambassador had been swirling since a show held in Paris in March, but now it’s official.

The actress was confirmed to be the latest in a roster of stars to represent the high-end fashion house after a campaign shot at E-1027 in Roquebrune Cap Martin, which was designed by trailblazing Irish architect Eileen Gray between 1926 and 1929, was released on 21st April.

SUPERSTAR BEHIND THE SCENES

The campaign features Zendaya with the brand’s bestselling Capucines handbag that launched in 2013. According to the company, “Personifying the dreamy energy of the Côte d’Azur, the new House Ambassador brings a playful vibrancy to the Capucines campaign, exuding a bold, feminine allure emblematic of the Maison’s signature collection.”

The photographs were the taken by Mert Alas and Marcus Pigott, and feature Zendaya in monochromatic black and white outfits posing with the handbags in a variety of glorious colours. The styling was done by fashion icon Law Roach, who just last month announced his retirement from the business.

“It’s a dream”

In a Behind the Scenes video published by Louis Vuitton, the actress describes how she felt about the iconic villa, that has recently undergone a complete renovation.

“The Cap Moderne is just stunning and absolutely beautiful to look at. When you shoot in places that are cinematic and beautiful and have their own character and interest and history, it’s really special,” says the 26-year-old. “I think every time you look at it, you find something new. And then when the light is coming in, it creates all these beautiful shadows and shapes on the wall. It’s a dream, because it makes the picture that much more interesting.”

Zendaya has been in the spotlight for a vast portion of her life. She started her career as a child model, went onto Disney and then made the leap to films, where she debuted in The Greatest Showman. Additionally, she became the youngest ever recipient of a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Actress for her role as a drug-addicted teen in the HBO series Euphoria.

Captain’Game: the orienteering course around the Fontvieille port

fontvieille game

Did you know that only 50 years ago, Fontvieille was a narrow strip of land where the cliffs of the Rocher met the sea? Discover the biodiversity and history of the area with this fun family activity: Captain’Game.

Fontvieille is an interesting part of the Monaco landscape. It’s tied to the economic development of the Principality, but is also a fascinating geological site will lots of secrets to share.

Captain’Game leads participants on a 2.5 kilometre route around the port, ticking off 10 important milestones made of recycled plastic as you pass. Each has a fact to share: simply read the question and punch in your guess to discover the answer.

The trail will teach you everything from the function of Monaco’s many biohuts to information about protected marine reserves, its history of land reclamation, the coralligenous rocks of the famous Rocher and the fish that live in the area.

The Captain’Game is a joint project between the Maritime Affairs Department, the Environmental Department, the Société d’Exploitation des Ports de Monaco and Ecocéan. It will run until 2027, giving you plenty to time to try it out and better your score each time.

Open-air cinema this May at Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort

monte-carlo bay

Sea, stars and cinema await at the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort’s open-air screening evening of Le Grand Bleu in May.

Save the date for 10th May, when Monte-Carlo Bay will host a special al fresco evening of cinema beneath the stars as part of the ongoing “The Sea is Green” programme.

Guests will be immersed in comfort as they are seated in deckchairs near the lagoon and treated to a finger food menu featuring the “best of the sea” in a street food style to watch a screening of the 1988 cult classic Le Grand Bleu by celebrated director Luc Besson.

Considered one of the most beautiful films ever made, the story is a heavily fictionalised drama about a rivalry between real-life free divers Jacques Mayol and Enzo Maiorca, who both set “no limits” deep diving records, going below 100 metres without the use of any breathing equipment. Though they compete against each other to see who can go deeper and stay under longest, it is not contentious, and the pair are friends, though neither can resist the lure of trying to outdo the other, making for a seriously dangerous game.

The story is gripping, but it is the underwater photography, which is visually astonishing, and the emotionally intense content that hooked people in back when it was first released.

Doors open at 7.30pm and the cost is €65 for adults and €35 for children under 12. This includes the film plus a main dish and dessert from the menu.

Ticket are required and can be purchased online here

Garden inspiration at the Villa Ephrussi rose festival

villa ephrussi

Full buds and flowers bursting into bloom, nothing says spring more in the garden than the arrival of roses. Enjoy them in all their glory at the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild this weekend.

Over the course of two days, Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th April, the gardens of the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild on Saint Jean Cap Ferrat will be throwing their gates open to the public for a special event on the roses and plants that grow within the boundaries.

The head gardener will be hosting a series of workshops for adults and children, while an official guide will lead visitors on tours through the incredible property’s “nine sacred gardens”.

Local farmers, rose growers and nurseries will also be on hand, selling everything from the plants themselves to equipment. It’s the perfect opportunity to ask the professionals any questions you have about your garden and growing roses.

Inspiration in the gardens

And if that’s not inspiration enough, pianist Steve Villa Masonne will be setting up his signature red piano in the heart of the gardens for an unforgettable performance accompanied by the Lumin Art ballerina duo next to the Villa Ephrussi’s famous musical fountains.

It’s the 12th edition of this successful – and scented – event. Tickets cost €16 per adult, €13 for seven to 17-year-olds and a family pass costs €45.

Formula E: Prime tickets for Monaco ePrix still available

Monaco ePrix

With under a fortnight to go until the sixth edition of the Monaco ePrix, many tickets are still available, and at a reasonable price.

Only three stands are completely sold out. It is no longer possible to get seats for the first-corner carnage at Sainte Dévote, nor the final climb up from La Rascasse and into the final corner, but many thousands of seats around the track remain available.

As revealed in Monaco Life’s Everything you need to know about the Monaco ePrix, some of the best views are to be found around La Rascasse corner. This is due to the views of the pitlane, as well as plenty of giant screens to follow the action.

But the following stands have views of a big screen as well as of the pitlane too, and still have availability:

– Tribune L – Piscine Rainier III

– Tribune T1 – Cale de Halage

– Tribune T2 – Cale de Halage

There are still many seats available in the Quai Albert II stand, where spectators can experience some of the most high-speed action with views of the Monaco port. There are even a handful of places around the iconic Casino Square, one of the better overtaking spots on a track where is notoriously hard to pass.

Tickets are very reasonably priced. Children between the ages of six and 15, who are accompanied by an adult, attend for free, whilst all other tickets are priced at €30. Tickets can be bought at the Monaco ePrix online ticket office or from the ticketing office at 44 Rue Grimaldi.

Are you eligible for the 2023 energy cheque?

2023 energy

More than five million French households will automatically receive an energy voucher to help cover rising costs this spring. Read on to check if you are eligible.

Starting 21st April, the French government began sending out cheques to help offset the high energy costs still plaguing many lower income households. The vouchers, which are awarded based on a means test, will help pay for electric, gas, fuel oil and even wood bills in some cases, as well as for specific energy projects in the home, such as the installation of a heat or geothermal pump.

The calculations for eligibility are based on an individual’s Income Tax Reference Tax (RFR) as well as personal usage. Eligibility can be checked easily and conveniently by using a simulator put out by the Ministry of Ecological Transition.

If you are eligible and still haven’t received a voucher by the end of June, there are two courses of action that can be taken. The first is an online form or you can call a dedicated hotline on 0805 204 805 from Monday to Friday and between 8am and 8pm.

The cheque is not a direct cash payment to individuals, but rather a voucher used to directly pay participating energy suppliers. The voucher is credited directly onto a customer’s account or it can be pre-assigned to specific payees in advance either online or by ticking the pre-assignment box on the energy cheque before sending it to a supplier.

If pre-allocation has been requested, reimbursement of the energy voucher will be sent directly to suppliers in April.

The range of rebates is from €48 to €277 depending on household use and circumstances.
