Formula E: Prime tickets for Monaco ePrix still available

Monaco ePrix

With under a fortnight to go until the sixth edition of the Monaco ePrix, many tickets are still available, and at a reasonable price.

Only three stands are completely sold out. It is no longer possible to get seats for the first-corner carnage at Sainte Dévote, nor the final climb up from La Rascasse and into the final corner, but many thousands of seats around the track remain available.

As revealed in Monaco Life’s Everything you need to know about the Monaco ePrix, some of the best views are to be found around La Rascasse corner. This is due to the views of the pitlane, as well as plenty of giant screens to follow the action.

But the following stands have views of a big screen as well as of the pitlane too, and still have availability:

– Tribune L – Piscine Rainier III

– Tribune T1 – Cale de Halage

– Tribune T2 – Cale de Halage

There are still many seats available in the Quai Albert II stand, where spectators can experience some of the most high-speed action with views of the Monaco port. There are even a handful of places around the iconic Casino Square, one of the better overtaking spots on a track where is notoriously hard to pass.

Tickets are very reasonably priced. Children between the ages of six and 15, who are accompanied by an adult, attend for free, whilst all other tickets are priced at €30. Tickets can be bought at the Monaco ePrix online ticket office or from the ticketing office at 44 Rue Grimaldi.

Photos: Prince opens first temporary exhibition at Palace featuring twin city Dolceacqua

Monaco Dolceacqua

Prince Albert II has inaugurated the first temporary exhibition of the season in the Grands Appartements of the Prince’s Palace: a series of works entitled ‘500 Monaco-Dolceacqua’ by artist Julien Spiewak.

On Thursday 20th April, Prince Albert, accompanied by Monaco Mayor Georges Marsan and Fulvio Gazzola, the mayor of Dolceacqua, was shown a gallery of original photos highlighting certain rooms of the Prince’s Palace as well as private places and historical sites of the small town in the Ligurian hinterland.

The photos are part of a series entitled ‘Corps de Style’, which associates a human body, or fragments of naked bodies, with a work of art or stylish furniture.

“This exhibition is part of the demonstrations of the twinning between the Italian commune and Monaco, which will be solemnly concluded on 3rd November, five centuries to the day after the oath of loyalty of the syndics of Dolceacqua to Augustin Grimaldi, Lord of Monaco,” said the Palace in a statement.

The exhibition will conclude in Monaco on 8th May, before moving to Dolceacqua, where it will be held until the end of the summer.

Style with an eco-edge at Monte-Carlo Fashion Week

monte-carlo fashion week

Monte-Carlo Fashion Week will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year with an edition featuring clothing and accessory trends that have a serious ethical and sustainable edge.

Under the patronage of Princess Charlene and organised by the Monegasque Chamber of Fashion, Monte-Carlo Fashion Week (MCFW) has gone from a local showcase to an international event in just 10 short years.

Designers from around the world, whether established or emerging, are drawn to Monte-Carlo Fashion Week’s eco-cred as well as for its inclusiveness and diversity.

SHOWCASING MOANCO

Far from just a series of catwalk shows, MCFW is also a bigger picture event featuring fashion conferences and symposia, socials, cocktail parties and a fashion hub and pop-ups.

For this 10th anniversary edition, which runs from 17th to 21st May, emblematic places around the Principality will become venues for side events and a “Fashion Map” will be given to guests to get them around.

The Yacht Club of Monaco is where the Fashion Hub, the showrooms and the conferences will be based. The new museum of the Private Collection of Cars of the Prince of Monaco will host the parades and the Grande Verrière of the Grimaldi Forum will be the site of the prestigious Fashion Awards Ceremony.

GREEN IS THE NEW BLACK

With a focus on green fashion, the week is also a sounding board to “help to raise awareness of the importance of protecting our planet and the life in it”, gaining prestige and attention from top designers such as Tommy Hilfiger, Alberta Ferretti and Pauline Ducruet.

“Circularity is not a temporary fashion trend, but the key to the future, starting with the catwalk,” says Federica Nardoni Spinetta, the event’s creator and the president and founder of the Monegasque Chamber of Fashion. “This is the winning bet of Monte-Carlo Fashion Week, the event that once again confirms its role as a showcase for trends and, at the same time, perpetuates its essence as a reference platform for circular, ethical, eco-sustainable and inclusive fashion.”

AWARDS SHOW

In 2016, the Monegasque Chamber of Fashion created the Ethical and Sustainable Fashion Award to honour a brand for its engagement and contribution to raising awareness and protecting our planet by playing an active role in encouraging positive change, supporting sustainability, promoting a cleaner and better world for generations to come, and of course, by producing high-quality, eco-friendly garments.

Even the award is art. It was designed by Monaco-based artist Marcos Marin and features a curvy silhouette that looks as if it should be in a gallery. This year, the ceremony will be held at 8pm on 20th May.

ALTRUISTIC EDGE

Monaco’s chic and fabulous also have a heart, and the MCFW will, for the seventh year running, support the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, which raises public awareness about water safety; teaching children to swim and preventing unnecessary drowning deaths worldwide.

Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo present La Belle like you’ve never seen her before

les ballets de monte-carlo

Experience the tale of Sleeping Beauty like you’ve never heard it before with Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo and Jean-Christophe Maillot’s award-winning reinterpretation of the famous fairy tale this April.

From 26th to 30th April, the dancers of Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo will partner with Prima Ballerina Olga Smirnova for a series of performances of La Belle, a “ferocious psychoanalytical interpretation” of Sleeping Beauty that has won numerous awards since its first conception by Jean-Christophe Maillot in 2001.

“Jean-Christophe Maillot taps into our childhood memories, fears and desires. The feats that mark Sleeping Beauty’s story mirror the rites each woman must go through throughout her life. Perrault understood this only too well, and in turn, the choreographer has managed to break through the sugar-coated casing Disney previously used in handling the tale,” says the company. “The lesser-known second half of Perrault’s story is brought to the fore, in which Sleeping Beauty awakens from her slumber and her marriage to the Prince leads on to further exploits. The second part of the fairy-tale is dark and terrifying: now Queen, the Princess and her children are threatened by her wicked stepmother, the Ogress Maleficent.”

We all know of Sleeping Beauty, but in Maillot’s creation, Maleficent is one of the most emblematic characters and “the perfect embodiment of the sheer terror contained within this story”.

“Maleficent is like a magnet, sucking in all of our fears and taboos,” says choreographer Maillot. “I created an androgynous, ambiguous being that is far from a straightforward symbol, and that might be a potential partner for Sleeping Beauty. Although the character embodies evil, evil is nevertheless difficult to define. My ballets always reject Manichaeism, the concept of evil versus good.”

Tickets are now available for the five performances, which each take place at the Salle des Princes in the Grimaldi Forum at 7.30pm, except for the finale on 30th April at 3pm. To reserve your seat, please click here.

Rugby: Sainte Dévote Tournament returns with 17 countries represented

Sainte Dévote Tournament

The Sainte Dévote Tournament returns this Saturday for its 11th edition, with 20 teams from 17 different countries coming together for the rugby event at the Stade Louis II.

Three different events will run throughout the day under the iconic arches of the Louis II. The main event is the international competition, contested by under-12 players from across the world. This year, 17 different nationalities will be represented from across the world, with teams from Senegal, the United Arab Emirates and Ecuador among the countries to feature.

In what is described as a “celebration of rugby”, there will be two further events taking place: the ‘Rugby For All’ tournament is an event that will offer initiations adapted to children and young adults with disabilities, while even children from the ages of two to seven can have the chance to get involved in the ‘Rugby Tots’ event.

This summer’s Jumping International de Monte-Carlo to champion AMADE

Jumping International Monte-Carlo

Between 29th June and 1st July, the best show jumpers in the world will descend on the Port Hercule for this year’s edition of the Jumping International de Monte-Carlo, with a special event for the benefit of AMADE a highlight.

It is one of the biggest events of the summer for Monaco and is an incredible sight to behold as the Port Hercule is transformed into a world class arena for the very best athletes and horses from the sport of show jumping. It’s also an event close to the hearts of the Grimaldi family, who have a long equestrian tradition.

This year’s edition coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Association Mondiale des Amis de l’Enfance, AMADE, and a special event for its benefit will be taking place on the opening day of action: the Longines Pro Am Cup.

The concept was created in 2010 by Charlotte Casiraghi, formerly a keen competitor in a number of show jumping competitions worldwide. Amateurs and professionals are paired up for the Longines Pro Am Cup and each of the pairs must defend the colours of a sponsor and engage in a relay course “specially designed to allow the two riders to express themselves and to ensure a very beautiful spectacle for the spectators”.

Beginning at 9.15pm, the Longines Pro Am Cup makes for an exceptional viewing experience as the horses and their riders race beneath the falling light.

Last year, a donation of €25,000 was made at the finish line in the form of a cheque handed to Princess Caroline of Hanover, AMADE’S president, by Diane Fissore, the organiser of the Jumping International de Monte-Carlo.
