Vacherot defeats Fritz to set up Basel final against Lehecka

Valentin Vacherot secured his place in the Swiss Indoors Basel final with a 7-6 (5), 6-3 victory over sixth seed Taylor Fritz on Saturday 31st October.

After two three-set contests against Rafael Jódar and Holger Rune, Vacherot defeated American Fritz in straight sets to move within one win of the ATP 500 title.

This victory sets up a final against Jiri Lehecka, whom he last faced in the Tokyo semifinals when Lehecka beat Vacherot in straight sets.

TIE-BREAK RECOVERY

The opening set reached a tie-break, where Fritz moved into a 5-3 lead and was within two points of taking the set.

Vacherot responded with four consecutive points, overturning the deficit to establish an advantage heading into the second set.

SECOND-SET BREAKTHROUGH

Vacherot delivered a critical breakthrough in the second set with Fritz serving at 3-4. The break left him serving for a place in the final at 5-3. He went on to complete the victory on his third match point.

Vacherot will face Lehecka in the title match on Sunday 1st November before turning his attention to the Paris Masters, where he has been drawn against Novak Djokovic in the first round.
